I hAVE A 69 that is slightly modified and I'd like to put shoulder belts in it for safety purposes.
Anyone done this ? Where would I buy them ?
Thanks.

Shoulder Belts were an option in 69. Mine had them. Try going to http://www.chevroletrestorationworld.com

Well...yeah...but those older GM shoulder/lap sets were the most hateful belts on Earth.

How stupid does an engineer have to be to make the passengers click TWO buckles?

I installed belts from a '90's S-10/Blazer in my Toronado. You'll have to get creative on the upper mounting point; and I needed the "free" seat belt extender offered by GM.

I agree that the stock '69 shoulder belts were terrible (not comfortable or ergonomic at all). I'd go with new ones.

Those ones from andover or from jegs listed above are awesome, and come with a little bracket for the upper mounting point, so it bolts to the factory holes!

Makes for a very easy installation. I've put these in the last 4 or 5 a-body's i've owned.

Dave, I put on the Morris belts and they are a direct bolt on. It's nice to eliminate the pile of buckles on the front seat! Make sure you specify bench or buckets.

Mine came with the shoulder belts. Except for the few times I ran the car at the track, I only use the lap belt. If I were driving the car more, that Morris retrofit kit would be nice.

What is the Morris seat belt conversion? Does it apply to a 69? I may be interested in converting to something better?

Thanks,

RwS

Click the link at the top of the thread to a Jegs product (the andover link is the same thing)
It is just a modern 3 point retractable seatbelt kit that bolts into the factory locations in chevelles and elcaminos.

My Buick has them. Nice attempt, but major fail. The top belt goes right across my jugular. You might want to look into aftermarket.

I also have the Morris Classic Concepts 3-point retractable belts...

best part is that I don't have to dig between the seat and console to find the female buckle every time.

Did you get the ones iwth the little extension leg for the shoulder pivot? If not thats the problem- Need that 3"-4" extension to get it down to where its comfortable.

Elcaminos don't need that extension becuase the mounts are lower, but chevelles definitely need it.

I just like not having to explain to people riding in it how come the retractable side of the factory lap belts only comes out half way...

See the attachement below.... Some belts come with that "extension" or dog leg, some don't. I know the ones i've bought for my elky's havn't had them, but like i said, the mounting point is lower than it is on a chevelle. My neighbors 69 'velle has the ones with the extension in the pic, and they feel as good sitting in them as the ones in my elcamino do...
