4 months ive had my somewhat nasty 350 done runs great very strong.got off work the other night and stopped by a friends house got to talking he asked how motor was running said great,his reply "to bad you dont have a big block",
me:"yeah that'd be nice but to costly hard to find"...."you want one?","yeah i want one,"
"come check this out".block casting is 3999289,
crank just says 6223 (nasty z28 says 427)
heads ported 219 valves 3917215.
"love to have it danny but i just dropped 4500 into the 350"."you want me to bring it to your house"."dude i dont have any money"."thats ok i dont want it you can have it,i know youll do something with it".a mutual friend had to leave the state quickly and consolidated all his racer stuff and i was not around so danny got it.so there it sits in my garage.heads look great been sitting need cleaning and grinding,guides.
block 60 over no ridge looks to be good con.
crank forged but #7 journal has big gash,beyond typical turning repair.can it be welded and turned or cheaper to buy aftermarket crank?typically i should'nt even be thinking of builiding 'nother general but damn there sits more power and more money.a hobby you love to hate.....

You should be HOPING it doesn't end.

Don't forget to buy Danny a cool six-pack...every week for a year. (You can help him drink them.)

Allright - let the fun begin!

Danny is definately looking out for you - be sure to let him have some seat time when you are finished.

Shane;

Sorry, the bad news is: You have been exposed to drag racing, and you are INFECTED, and there is no cure. Medical science has yet to conquer this problem.

The good news is that by throwing lots and lots of money at the infection, you can make yourself comfortable. Won't cure it, but you can live with it.

I hear that once you get to the 7-second phase, things level off and you can go on maintenance, but I don't know anybody that has experienced it.

is it cost effective to weld then re-turn a journal? can it be done?is it worth saving a forged piece

it can be cost-effective, but if it's very bad why not just scare up another crank? 396 and 427 cranks are the same except for some balancing stuff, 427's had heavier pistons. Not a big deal. Personally, I have a hard time trusting welded cranks.\

The seven second thing is just a myth. The team I work with just spent $25,000 on a new motor to get us from 6.30's to 5.90's in the Top dragster class. We were running 7's four years ago.
