I ordered and received a Stainless Steel tank from OOPS (NO VENDOR BASHING) let's just say "SOME" HOT ROD SHOP" To my surprise, the filler neck was seperate. I never thought to ask I just assumed that all would be one piece. Anyone out there get their tank this way? They said all tanks are shipped this way.

ALSO, when I took the tank out of the box, it sounded like a spray paint can with little rattle balls. (Welding slag) This didn't go well with me so I called over to "SOME "Hot Rod Shop". I was instructed to use a "Shop Vac" to get it out. I don't think for the price I should have to make sure there is no debris in the tank. On the bright side at least I'm cofident that all is clean now.( At least better than before, no more noise)

ALSO, they forgot the sending unit. At least there was a big hole in the tank I could get my Shop Vac hose down into. :D The guy on the phone was very nice and polite. He definately has the personality for that job. As mad as I was, he seemed to say the right things in a nice way to calm me down. They should give that guy a raise (Hector) When I got off the phone, I still wasn't satisfied so I went looking for the wife. ;)

ANYWAY, is this seperate filler neck the way you guys received your tank???? Thanks Bob :beers:

I have never heard of a tank coming with a seperate filler neck. Must be for shipping reasons. I guess you weld the neck back on once you get it.

The tank for our 69 didn't come with a the filler tube, had to take it to a radiator shop to have it soldered on. Of course they made me take my old tank with me when I left. Off to the junk yard, they took it without charging me for it.

Mine is for a 72. Did yours come with the rubber connector and hose clamps? Did you install it that way or get it welded?

Go back and read the add, if it didn't say it wasn't included I'd be upset.... Then again they did give you the slag at no extra cost :D

Mine came two piece with hose and clamps. AS heavy as it is it made it easier to install as a two peice. I then mailed the neck back and had a late model GM filler neck welded to it to help with back slap when filling. So I was able to use one neck while waiting for my other one to get made up. I like the two piece because the previous owner has a NHRA kill switch mounted to what would be behind the filler neck. A solid piece would have conflicted with it and I wanted to keep it as a extra precaution kill switch for when ever I park it and I can't keep a constant set of eyes on it. I need the extra wiggle room to flip the switch.

I would expect them to have jig welded the neck on since they are fabbing them up anyway. It can be hard for the average Joe to get that thing in the right place let alone find a good stainless steel heliarcer (sp).
