Here are the specs:
Flat top 400SBC (just valve reliefs - should be 10-10.5:1 SCR with my heads, right?)
6" rods
462624 heads (76cc 2.02/1.60)
1 5/8" primary full headers
Holley Contender intake
Predator carb w/2" spacer

Eventually I'm replacing the heads with possibly a set of AFR 64cc 210s and adding a Weiand tunnel ram and second Predator at the same time.

This is all going in a '71 Monte Carlo. 3500-4000lbs.

Gear and converter are stock. Will be going to a 3.73-3.90 gear and I'd like to match the converter to your cam suggestion.

Vacuum is not a problem. I'm running a separate vacuum pump to run my brakes and heater/ac.

I'd like it to be a powerhouse across the board, pull some strong numbers on the dyno and behave on the street(don't we all?). I don't like a raunchy idle, so idle quality is of no real concern to me.

Thanks!

flat tops and 76cc heads, you compression might be lower, just guessing 8.5 to 9:1.

http://www.turbofast.com.au/Tfcomp.html

The above site shows 10.56:1 with my setup.

I forgot to mention the pistons are .005 in the hole and the heads have been decked .012, but not CC'd so I'm going off of OEM numbers.

Do you want a hydraulic or a solid? Or even a roller? I imagine this is going to be a daily driver, so what about power brakes?
Your last staement on idle was confusing. Are you looking for a rough or lopey idle?
Let me know.....

UDHarold Sorry, that was supposed to say I don't MIND a raunchy idle! My fingers and mind weren't working together properly.

The rougher the idle, the better. It keeps the import kids from wanting to race me smile.gif

I'd like to step up to a solid or roller. It has a Comp 292H in it now, but after 500 miles it's already wiped a lobe and has a collapsed lifter. Would you mind giving me specs on both a solid and a roller? What would be your advice... roller?

It is a daily driver and I'm not worried about a vacuum signal. I have a modified Cadillac Air Ride pump that pulls a vacuum on my brake booster.

OOh Ooh Ooh Harold, put him into an 401A6 set on a 108/106 lsa with a nice 3000+ stall converter. It'll SKA-REAU!

Sounds like a decent little cam. How would this cam stack up with the Comp 292H I have now as far as idle sound and power? (It's got a wiped lobe and a collapsed lifter)

Both 427L88 and DEEBOO have excellent cams. The 280/284F10 will have the broadest power band and the most top-end, the 401A6 ground on 108 will have more mid-range launch. Both cams need a 3000 to 3200 SS converter. The 401A6 on 106 LSA is one of my mainstays for short oval track, so you know it has massive bottom-end and mid-range. In comparison to the CC 292H, there's no comparison. These cams make more power across the board.
Either cam will make you happy. They have almost identical exhaust sounds.
