I want to convert to a 4 or 5 speed, and I am also slowly building a 496. The current 350 is rebuilt and should hold up, and there is a TH350 Auto in here right now which runs fine. Theres a few ways im thinking to do it, since it will be a while to complete both projects. Build them both and installing them together which was my first thought, but if there is mods or little problems to get them to fit then it all comes appart, plus in the meantime I could have 1 fun new toy, in stead of waiting longer for 2 :D But the new tranny has to be rated enough to handle the BBC build up, if I put that in early and run the 350 on it while the 496 is getting built up, it will handle ok? Ive got some nasty little stock gears to. Just wondering what order you guys would or have done things in.

I'd stay automatic...but I'm that way graemlins/thumbsup.gif if its parts breakage you want,by all means put a stick behind a 496

Parts breakage with a 496 on a stick? Not if I go with the right application, I'd think it would be fine. Either way this basically stock TH350 isnt going to hang with a 496, and I dont want to put money into a tranny I dont want, or money for a new one, i wouldnt buy a new auto either. Gotta be stick! graemlins/hurray.gif

You can make that th350 last behind a 496 cheaper than buying a 4-5 speed and all the parts needed with it

I'd save for the tranny and get it installed first. The only compatibility issues will be the flywheel. Could use the T350 behind the rat for now unless it is a bracket car OR you can't help yourself and will flog it relentlessly. They are stronger than you think. slicks and hard lauches will eat it quick though.

TH350 was still alive and kicking when removed in november, just switched to a stronger 400 for future 468...I had 4.5 yrs of use from it, can't complain with all the track time ;)

Bob, I took comment out. To some, in my humble opinion. But I don;t want to ruffle your feathers big man! smile.gif Anyway, Phil has his mind made up.

While it may not ET as well as your ride, I guarantee you'd enjoy taking the ol L88 for a thourough thrashing. You had a stick once , right? Oh com'on then you can't compare the 'fun' of driving them! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Unfortuntely Sir, I hear ya. Still trying to get a repaired knee back in action and it's coming too slow. Therefore I'm not out for a spring Tom today ( opening day), and working on the car is not as easy.

And I'm only 43!

I totally understand people and there love for the Auto's esecially for those who have been driving for LOTS more years, you old timers :D Ive owned 7 cars sicne I was 18, 4 of them were stick, I learned to drive in a stick, It's just one of those things, especially in cars like these, it just feels better having full control of the gears, the look, the feel.... damn :D I just got my new wheels and tires, that set me back REAL good, even with my discount I got eaten up pretty good. The body work is nearly complete and the interior MOSTLY there, headliner and things. But my main projects, most costly and time consuming are the BBC build up and the stick conversion. Since the BBC will be built at a machine shop, and the rest done by me... and you fine people graemlins/hurray.gif I guess whenever I have the money, because it's basically all in one big sump for a new tranny, other than the little linkage, pedal parts... etc. I've been poking through the Richmond site alot, I will probably be going Richmond for sure here, T-10 4 speed, or one of the Street use 5 speeds. I think JEGS recently had them on sale for under $900 didnt they? It's nearly impossible to save money working in an auto store... G-DAMN
