I'm thinking about my next project, and considering a 502 w/closed chambers such as the 063's (100 cc +/-). I think this would get me around 10:1 - this would let me run a pretty stout cam. Is this feasible or even advisable?

IMHO,a pair of those heads all done up with 2.19 or 2.25/1.88 valves on a 502 would be pretty stout

What are you going to do with it? You will run out of cylinder head real fast with that many cubes. If you 3.08s or such and want a freeway crusier they will work but if you plan to turn any RPMs get something different.

I'd like to build-up a mid '80s Monte, Regal, or Cutlass for 50/50 street/strip. I hope to find a "Gramma or Granpa" low mile car that doesn't need anything. I was thinking about the closed chambers to get the compression up. I was just looking in the Edelbrock catalog and they have a Performer head w/100cc chambers - I wonder if they are any good.
There is somebody on TC that has the setup I was asking about (502 w/closed chambers) that was running pretty good.

Those E-Brock heads are good ones but are lo-po b/c they aren't high flow'ers. BUT I bet they will do you nicely, jmho...
I wished they were made in about a 90 CC chamber size for older, stock, flat-top piston low compression 454 P/U motors b/c they would up the CR nicely to something good compared to the dismal about 7.9 to 8 to 1 stock without changing pistons..

A real winner in my book..

I have the stock aluminum ZZ502 heads that have been fully ported. Stock bottom end, comp cams solid roller 680/683- 250/261 @ 50, performer rpm with a 850 holley.....I have not had it back to the track with the back half done,I hope it will hook better to help with ET....My best is a 10.83 just shy of 121 mph....Hope this helps...Good luck....

88502,
Any issues bolting the old heads on?

I have a stock 502 shortblock and was going to run a set of LS-6 #291 closed chamber SQ ports. At 107cc it would put the comp ratio right at about 9.9/10 to 1 with the standard JE pistons used. There is a plug kit available thourgh the performance GM dealers that cost about $30 that allows U to bolt the older mark4 heads on a mark 5/6 block.
