can i moddify my current mufflers to a bigger pipes size? i have flowmaster 3 chambers right now. what if i cut the little cone rudercer thing and welded a bigger pipe on that? wouldnt that work? i want to go bigger than my current 2 1/4 setup but id rather not spend another 70 a peice for mufflers.

300,
A muffler shop can swedge (open them up) from say 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 but I doubt that they can open them to 3 inch.If you do decide to do this bring a sample piece of the new pipe with you for correct sizing.

heres what im saying. flowmaster has the same dimensions for all the mufflers of the same series. the only difference is the inlet/outlet sizes.so couldnt i just carfully cut off that inlet/outlet and weld on the size i need?

Well I'm not sure about flowmasters, most mufflers tubing continues into the muffler body.Meaning they don,t end and begin at the end caps. So if you were to cut the pipes off the end and open up the muffler you would still see a
2 1/4 pipe in there.I'm not saying its impossible I just don't think it would be easy.BUT then what do I know I'm just a poor caveman.... graemlins/clonk.gif

that would be true on a regular muffler but with the flows chambered interior i wouldnt think it would be a big deal

Welding on my flowmasters 40 series that were on 2 1/4 onto 3 inch pipes, don't know how but my friend says it can be done.

I went from 2.25 to 3" on the flow 40s by cutting reducer cone and welding to the muffler. There is no pipe protruding into the muffler. My muffler shop said the 40 flows are the same..just reduced differently
