I was having some difficulty finding the cam I wanted to use in a Gen VI configuration. In a MKIV block that is. I believe it was Bill K. who suggested the Comp. Cam line. I've always use Comp for valve train. I've found a limited selection of cams for the MKVI. Even Comp had to grind it. If anyone is interested in the specs it's part number 01-425-8. This is going in the 498" street/strip thumper. It ends up with a DCR of 8.39:1. Thats with alum heads.Anyways, thanks to all who piped up with suggestions. I'll let you know how she runs hopefully by the end of summer. Till then, wrench on. Tony A. graemlins/beers.gif

I don't understand at all. Are you using a Gen 6 cam and hydraulic roller lifters, etc, in a Mk IV block?

How are you securing the lifters? Can you use the Gen 6 hardware somehow? I'd be REALLY INTERESTED if you've figured out how to do this.

I have heard of this being done with the small blocks, but I've never actually inspected one that was converted using the factory parts.

I'm using retro-fit hydraulic rollers, MKVI true roller timing set (Cloyes),MKVI cam retaining plate and mech fuel pump. Pushrods are like .400" shorter than stock. What made me go this route? I like the cam retaining plate set-up. No buttons pushing on the timing cover. I was going hyd. roller anyway. And I'm a sucker for punishment!

What's the rest of your combo look like Tony? Heads, SCR, intake, etc...

So basically, everything is MarkIV, except the cam is a GenVI step nosed cam and the matching cam sprocket and timin chain. Competition Products has a lot of the GenVI take out cams for very little cost. Don't know for sure if these have the fuel pump lobe or not though. I asked this similiar thing recently regarding the tapped holes at the cam thrust area on my '78 454 block. I assume, the GenVI retainer will work on this also.

Kirk, the heads are GMPP rovals with 2.25 int/1.88 exh cnc ported and milled down to a 104 cc chamber. More bowl work was done and they were flowed before and after. The numbers to me were impressive considering a 290cc runner. The intake is the matching Bowtie.

Sounds good. I was looking at similar heads for my GenVI motor, but I thought the dome that would be required to get approx. 10.5:1 would be a little high, given the 119cc chambers that these heads come with. What pistons did you go with, and what was the SCR?

Kirk, because it's a stroker motor it is a relatively small dome. .180" I believe. The pistons are SRP profiled for the dome of those heads. Check their website for info. The static ended up at 11.53. Tony A graemlins/beers.gif
