When I purchased my car, it came with a steering wheel that looks identical to the typical cushion grip steering wheel however it is red (someone had previously tried to dye it back but some original red is visible). I thought these only came in black or is this a different model that wasn't used on Chevelles?

Oldmobiles had a similar steering wheel that were colored to match the interior, but chevelle wheels should be black, at least on SS cars.

On this subject does anyone make a correct repo. The ones I have seen the graining looks off. I have a original one on my car but over the years it has become smooth and has a sticky feel to it no mater what I clean it with.

I'm not worried about the block! The heads are more important to me! I guess the guys as the machine shop were also eyeing the LS6 intake pretty hard too. Bill said he had two different offers to "make it disappear". I'm glad he likes me!

I figured I just missed you when I left on Friday...

He said you had just left before I got there. I wanted to go listen to his 67 with the exhaust on it.

Your red steering wheel is from a Buick Skylark. Olds used a 4 spoke

A 69 Camaro SS I restored about 12 years ago with a Red interior had a Red three spoke cushion grip on it. Have no idea if it was original to the car or not.

Speaking of '69 cushion grip wheels, was it an option introduced later in the model year? I haven't seen it in any '69 Chevelle option lists.

Dana,
Enjoyed the slide show of your Chevelle 'vert - looks very sharp! Except for that 'two toned' wheel :D
Get yourself a genuine leather stitch on wheel cover and spend a hour or two to put it on - you'll be glad you did.
I put one on mine but got a wide model and added some padding to flesh it out - it was a shinny plastic wheel. I used carpet stick backing and some shelf pad for mine. I love it!! Wheel had cracks in it, but now looks like new!
