: Best "bang for the buck" on your ride?
70_FathomBlueMalibu Sep 4th, 04, 2:38 AM Pretty simple. What's the best "bang for the buck" thing that you've done to your project? Maybe something that you couldn't believe you waited so long to do and were blown away by the results. graemlins/beers.gif
best money i spent on my car was the SSM lift bars. totally changed the way the car launched and hooked. i went from not hooking at all to 1.80 60ft times on street radials.
Going from a peg leg with 2.73 gears to a posi with 4.11s :D graemlins/thumbsup.gif
70_FathomBlueMalibu Sep 4th, 04, 2:55 AM m71, I've really wanted to try a set of SSM's, but they've been hard to track down. I can't even find a used set on Ebay. I don't think I want to buy Jeg's version as there was some sort of rift between them and SSM on the design rights. I'd really like to go whole hog and get a Dick Miller setup.
LXS, yeah baby, gears! I went from 2.56 open/350TH to 3.91/700R-4. Sumbitch! That's probably the biggest difference, but it cost me a little bit.
there are better bars out there now, but none are as cheap as the SSM's were. mine were real cheap...i bought them used off of a buddy who had them on his 69 for a very short time then decided to go with a back half and 4 link set up. i gave $50 for them, i think they were $150 new.
70_FathomBlueMalibu Sep 4th, 04, 4:07 AM m71, what bars would you recommend if SSM is not an option?
RedSS454 Sep 4th, 04, 7:37 AM I have two:
1) Buy it.
2) Rear Bushings and new control arms. No more wheel hop.

mc71454 Sep 4th, 04, 9:17 AM Quality and properly set up Torque Converter...
and
open spacer on my Performer RPM Intake with a previous 11.50 combination.
The best bang for your buck, for me was installing a set of Edelbrook IAS self proportioning shocks & a Hellwig 1 1/2" front anti-sway bar. My '64 Malibu now handles corners nicely and still has a smooth stock type ride. Dave
Pat Kelley Sep 6th, 04, 10:46 AM On my driver, going to a 2.25" SuperTurbo exhaust system. On the bracket car, going to slicks from BFG Drag Radials.
bulb122 Sep 6th, 04, 10:53 AM On my 350, taking off the worn out 1.70/1.50 307 heads that were on there, and replacing with fresh factory 2.02/1.60 heads.
$400, to go from 14.1 to 13.5....
Adman Sep 6th, 04, 11:04 AM Gears are most definately the best seat of your pants feel smile.gif
79943 Sep 6th, 04, 11:42 AM 1) going from a 350 to a 406.
2) going from a 2.73 to 3.73 posi.
3) going from something <2" exhaust to 2 1/2".
in that order.
BowtieAaron Sep 6th, 04, 11:48 AM so far for me, it is the boxed rear lower arms and urethane bushings. i havnt driven the car yet, but that has to be the best thing i have done to the car. oh and patch that nice hole in the frame where the streering box bolted up. hehe.

Motor Martyr Sep 6th, 04, 12:13 PM From a 250" to a 385"
From a Glide to a TH-350 with ATI converter
From 3.08 gears to 4.10

godsend Sep 7th, 04, 1:30 AM Twin N20 Nytrex Triple Threat.

ZZ69chevelle Sep 7th, 04, 1:52 AM The anatomically correct hula doll bobbing around on the center console. ;)
BB_Mike Sep 7th, 04, 9:33 AM Rear Sway bar. I like to turn.
Thad Sep 7th, 04, 10:15 AM Larger Front, & Rear Sway bar are probably the best improvement in overall driving improvement,
But the rear gears, (I once went from 3.08 to 3.90) is the quickest way to a quick feeling car.
I've heard more knowledgeable people say that the right torque converter, is one of the best mods when it comes to E.T..
So which is the most important to you ?
70mousejob Sep 7th, 04, 10:49 AM Overall, Disc Brakes! Performance wise 4.10's and a Converter!
427L88 Sep 7th, 04, 12:41 PM Richmond 5 speed finally gave the engine the 'ideal' gear ratios it wanted. Nice improvement! 8.8 to 8.1 1/8 mile ET.
wayner Sep 7th, 04, 1:38 PM For my car which is a street cruiser:
1. Putting in an auto OD trans, love those long trips now.
2. Upgrading my electrical system to a internal regulator alternator, putting all my higher amperage drawing accessories on relays, including my headlites, which are 20% brighter now.
cjlandry Sep 7th, 04, 1:49 PM For power, Vortec heads and solid cam (Close to a thousand bucks).
For driveability, TA front sway bar $12, GM rear sway bar ~$60, hand fabricated a-arms ~$100 in materials, tall spindles and 12" disc brake upgrade ~$500 in materials.
700R4's, embarassed at how much I've spent on those things over the years.
kjett Sep 7th, 04, 2:11 PM Solid roller camshaft. Went from 11.50@117 to 10.8@124 with no other changes. Additional tweaking and small parts got me to the times in my signature.
Darracq Sep 7th, 04, 3:51 PM Best bang for the buck nitrous system. Not really bang for the buck but when i put my AFR heads on,i knew right then i would never have a factory head on my small blocks again.
