I have a friend of mine who works for one of the big name crank companys, one of the ones that only makes billet cranks and supplies them to most of the top fuel, pro stock, NASCAR, teams etc. I asked him if he could take my new Scat BBC crank I bought off the internet and put it through all the checks their billet cranks go through.

He took it to work and the owner / designer of the billet cranks was also interested and ended up giving the Scat a pretty thorough look over also.

After putting it through the paces the crank ended up being .0075 long. The rods journels were a couple of thou out as far as stroke goes, but other wise measured perfect. The crank was as straight as the billet ones and the finish on the rods and mains was also as good as the billet pieces.

Over all my friend said the crank would not pass their inspection if it were a billet, but did a lot better than he thought it would and said it should be fine in the 454 (+NOS) I am using to shake down my chassis.

I will update the post with all the exact measurements when I get the paperwork.

I thought you guys running the Scat stuff may find this interesting.

Thats good news..the guy building my new motor is using a Scat 9000 crank. It ought to work fine with a self imposed 6000 rpm limit.
