Anyone using the Mallory comp 250, I installed one to replace the 140, since Harold recommended more flow to feed his cam. So I put this monster pump right where the old one mounts with 8AN lines going up to a return style regulator, I think its the 4207 and 8AN going back to the tank with all the high flow fittings etc. I turn the ignition switch on and this thing is shooting fuel out of the center of the pump where the mounting bracket splits the pump motor to the pump. Whats going on, its being fed through a comp sump welded to the bottom of the tank into a BG filter that cost a small fortune and into the inlet of the pump. The bypass port was plugged up with the supplied 8AN fitting and I bought a flare cap to cover it. The outlet is also 8AN. The pump is pretty noisy as well, is it junk or something I personally did, anyone using this pump in this configuration, your thoughts?
Thanks Rich

It's a great pump...keep it. It sounds to me like the shaft seal is either missing or damaged. This seal is what keeps fuel from leaking out the shaft up towards the electric motor from the pump body.
I run this pump with the 4309? 3 port return stule regulator. Not one problem with it since it was installed back in '97 or so.

I had a Comp 140 that did the same thing after it had been sitting a good while. Mine was only a slow leak though.
I tightened the allen head screws on the bottom of the pump. It slowed the leak quite a bit, but it was still leaking.
After that I let the pump run 10-15 minutes and it eventually quit leaking. I guess the seal just got a little dry/hard.
That was over a year ago and it has yet to leak again.
You might give it a shot. If that doesn't take care of it, send it back and have them replace it.

Excuse me for venting, but why is everything we purchase these days Fd up. Its so frustrating, so little time to get things done, I rushed to get my LM-1 A/F ratio meter here to tune this weekend, oh well no fuel no tune
I just relized Im using the same regulator, the 4309. I tried getting in touch with mallorys tech department but they were closed. Im almost certain there gonna tell me to use the bigger regulator and 10an line. This system shoud work as yours does. What pressure do you set it to and does the pressure fluctuate or is it steady.
Im breaking in a new clutch and didnt want to beat the car hard, so I start accelerating hard through 2nd and shift to 3rd, when it reached 5000 rpm it really felt like it wasent pulling as hard almost lazy. This is what prompted me to go to the larger pump, this was the first time I ran the 540 with harolds cam and the new 1000 cfm holley. It doesent seem to be running terribly rich but it sure does eat alot of fuel.
Thanks Rich

The standard feed/return line recommended by Mallory is #8 as that is what fittings the pump & comp 500 filter had. I upgraded the feed & return to #10, but if I ded it over again, I'd leave the #8...#10 is kinda overkill for my combination.
There is no reason you should need anything other than the Comp 250 pump, 3 port regulator, and the Comp 500 filter. Should easily supply 650-700 hp no problem.
I pick up my fuel pressure from the plugged side of the seconday bowl using a dominator bowl and the required plug with 1/8" pipe threads. I set the regulator to approx 7 1/4 lbs and have never noticed it changing any more than a 1/4 lb during a run...rock solid really.

Unless your planning on 9's you will happier with your 140 no return and no agravation and you already plumbed for it.The 250 is overkill.
