Has anyone ever run a rim wider than 10" on their Chevelle? I currently run 29.5 X 10.5W M/Ts on Centerline Convo-Pros that measure 8.5" wide. The outer edges of the tires are feathered about 1.5" in from the outer edge, and are not pulling their fair share. graemlins/sad.gif

When I went to the Edelbrock/Pro hot rod fastest street car event this summer in Cordova Illinois, the class running my size tire all had 12" rims.

Physically a 12" rim with 6.5" of backspacing will fit with only minor mods to the shock mounting bolt. Problem is it leaves very little room for sidewall bulge on the tire.

I don't want to mount a tire out of curiousity and own a rim I can't use, sooo I am seeking the vast reserves of knowledge here on TC for help. graemlins/waving.gif

I don't think it can be done without heavy duty hammering,,,most I've heard say on this board is 10" rims and gotta do a little hammering and trimming with those too.

I use a 15x10" rim w/ 6.5' back spacing for my 28x10.5 MT slicks. I had to use a .5" spacer to clear for tire bulge and I have always thought tat a 11" rim and wider tire would fit with the fender well lip rolled under

I run the 28/14.50/15 Hoosier Quick Time Pros on 10" Weld Pro Stars with 5.5 bs. This tire has a advertised 13.1 section width on a 10" rim and just barely fits. I do have the lips on my fender "rolled". I am sure this is as wide of a section you would want to go with. Car needs to be centered or you will loose clearance on one side or the other and there just isn't room. So from what I see on my car a 12" rim would only leave you with about a 1/2" per side for the tire buldge.

I have 17X11's-no problem at all. Actually measure 11.5"-12" at the lips.

Thanks guys. I am trying to find some 12" rims I can borrow and mount my slick on to mock it up before I buy anything. I will let you know if it works.
