Is it possible to use a 5 point harness on a chevelle that has no roll bar and has bench seats? If so what would you bolt the shoulder straps to?

You could run a Y type harness. The pigtail off of the Y would have to go down to an L bracket attached to the floor behind the seat. You will need to add a plate on the underside of the L bracket to reinforce the thin foorpan in case of an impact. Definetly not the best setup, and you would still only be good to 12.00 without the rollbar.

Thanks, What size plate are we talking about? How does this change the use of the back seat and the carpet usage? Thanks again. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Aaron,
I do not think it is possible without the roll bar. The shoulder belts need to be attached almost directly behind you to be effective. If you run them down to the floor, they will do absolutely nothing to keep you from moving forward in a collision. Get a copy of the NHRA rule book and read the portion about seat belts and you will see what I mean.
Call the seat belt manufacturers and I am sure they will verify this. Here is one web site to look at:

Aaron. I think BillK is right here.. Like I said above its not the best setup. I would call whoever is doing the rollcages for the racers in your area and see what the have to say about it.

I've heard you can run the rear bracket to the mount for the back seat, and use a hook style bracket to attach it to the metal. It would work better than mounting it directly to the floor IMO.
