I tore second gear out of my TH400 racing a few weeks ago. I just got everything back together. I ended up rebuilding the transmission myself. This is the first time I've ever attempted a transmission rebuild. I rebuilt everything (pistons, seals, clutches, steels, band, etc...) with the exception of the pump. I just took the car for a test drive and the shifts feel really good. I tightened up the clearance in the direct and forward clutches. The 1-2 shift is noticeably quicker/firmer and 2-3 feels good too. So far no leaks. graemlins/hurray.gif

I have to say, I wouldn't have been able to do this rebuild myself without the help of one of our TC members Jacob Shoemaker. Man, I really can't stress enough how cool, helpful and knowledgable this guy is. He's a huge asset to TC and was a lifesaver during this project. In addition to sharing his own knowlege he turned me onto a really cool site for tranny parts for the do-it-your-selfer http://www.bulkpart.com He also told me about a killer book on TH-400 rebuilds/modifications by Ron Sessions. Next time I'm in the transmission (which hopefully won't be for a while) I plan to do a few modifications from the book ;) If everything goes as planned I'll be back in the saddle in the Summit Points race at Georgia's House of Speed on May 22.

graemlins/thumbsup.gif Excellent! And TC Hat's off to Jake. That's what the TC helpng hand is all about.

As a further indictment of my abilities, I bought a B&M Transkit once and redid my T400. Well, at the last minute I took it to a pro and asked him to take it back part and put it back together. And, it was a good thing!

So I can really appreciate a tranny done right. Good job!

Nice job. I couldn't (wouldn't trust myself to) do it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
