Did a search and came up with very little info. I have a Mark IV 454 and am wondering if a Gen 6 roller cam and thrust plate will fit. Found a nice comp cam that was in a Gen 5 but need to know if the thrust plate will work (bolt in; with or without mods). The cam does have the mech. fuel pump ecentric on it if I go that route. Any help? Thanks, Marc

Only works if you have the tapped holes on the front of the block for the thrust plate. Some blocks have these, some don't. If you have them. use the stock GenVI timing set and it goes right in.

Thanks GRN69CHV! The one search of this site that I did find talked about having to clearance the cam sprocket for the thrust plate to have room without binding. The guy that has this cam asked a buddy of his and he said to just use a gen 6 timing set. Any more ideas? Thanks again, Marc

You use the GenVI timing set if the block has the provisions for the retaining plate. If not, you will need to make (I don't know off hand of any part already available) a spacer to take the place of the retainer plate and fill in the step on the cam. The other questionable item is (again assuming your block does not accept the retainer plate), does the GenVI cam sprocket accept a thrust button? The bolt circle on the GenVI sprocket is smaller.

You don't need a thrust button, that's the purpose of the thrust plate. You will need however a set of retro fit hyd roller lifters if this is a hyd cam we're talking about. I retro built my 498" with a Gen 6 setup. Use the Gen 6 timing set as stated above. Cloyes makes an aftermarket set, that's the one I used.

You can only use the retainer if the block is set up for it. Not all blocks have the boss machined on the front for the cam retainer. If it is great, if not you have to either machine it (drill and tap) or use a thrust button.
