: Electric cutouts - Your experiences?
I've pretty much decided that I want to get electric cutouts, as I like to run at the strip, and I drive the car there. The pits are grass, so jacking it up to uncap is a real PITA.
I have looked at a number of different manufacturers, and would like to hear from everyone here who has them installed.
What I'd specifically like to know is:
1. What brand did you buy?
2. How long have you had them on your car?
3. Do you have problems with them leaking?
4. How was customer service?
5. Do you feel you got your money's worth?
Thanks to all!
Jp-15 Aug 18th, 04, 1:37 AM QTP (Quick Time Performance) has a nice 3 inch electric cutout. I have not personally used them, but I've talked to guys who have and they say that they absolutely love them and have not had a problem with them leaking or anything. The guy I had talked to had them on his car for a little while. Long enough to test them pretty well. He showed me how they worked and stuff, it was cool. Sounded great too, was cruising down the pits and flipped the switch and it was an amazing sound. Hope I helped.

Joe,
Sure did help. I see you're from Indiana.

Thanks,
T.

Twilightoptics Aug 18th, 04, 5:09 PM I've got a 3" McCord Power Plate..... Since mine they have changed the design.... but mine keeps coming loose and rattling and leaking... sounds great open, but trashy closed with the leak/rattle.

This is getting ridiculous! You mean to tell me there is only one person here who has these things? graemlins/clonk.gif
Big James 4XL Aug 20th, 04, 3:42 PM I'd like to run them too but there's still a law on the books in SC that makes them very illegal!!!
With my luck one would stick open and I'd end up with a fat ticket!!!
Jp-15 Aug 20th, 04, 3:48 PM TH, sorry about the wait. I was actually at the Indianapolis Raceway Park for superchevy. Did you head up there? If so you might have seen the car. It was a red Elcamino early-mid 80's style with late model door handles on it. It was sitting next to "Orange Crush".
No, I did not make it to Super Chevy. That was two or three weeks ago, wasn't it?
Does your car have electric cutouts?
Jp-15 Aug 23rd, 04, 1:18 AM No my car doesnt have electric cut outs at the moment, if I had the money I would def. try them out. I would say go for the QTP cut out's, I've heard nothing but good things.

doggy69 Aug 23rd, 04, 3:42 PM I had qtp's on my 71. They are sitting on the shelf now bc I went up to a 3" exhaust they didnt leak and they were cool but not for me. My car was making so much exhaust some was going through the muffs and it sounded weird. Then again 540 ci isnt a tiny girl either,
team5150 Aug 23rd, 04, 5:03 PM I have them on my 71 with a 402. I have a ball with them. Take your pick loud or quiet - or anywhere in between.
It's fun to start the car up at a show and it's quiet then BOOM  you sound like a NASCAR sitting there.
It helps to have a nice healthy 280 cam as well.
Here is the post I did on these.

doggy,
What size are the QTPs that are sitting on your shelf?
doggy69 Aug 23rd, 04, 9:23 PM 2 1/2"
Shoot, that ain't gonna cut it. I was afraid you were going to say that.
Anyone else actually own a set of these? I think I've only gotten two replies from people who actually had some installed on their cars. I can't believe more people haven't jumped on this one.
team5150 Aug 24th, 04, 1:28 PM doggy - how much do you want for yours ?

With my luck one would stick open and I'd end up with a fat ticket!!! I bet if you check with your DMV, It is illegal in all states.

rojo Aug 25th, 04, 12:09 PM That law reads like even Flowmasters are illegal. Which proves the point if a Law Officer decides to make your exhuast noise an issue, he usally can. I'd love to have a set of cut outs too but I know the temptation to open them up in the wrong place would eventually get me in trouble.

It's like the "blue dot tailights" that are illegal here. Back when I was a biker I put one on my HD and got a ticket for it the first night I went riding with it!
Hmmm...still not getting much of what I need out of this thread.
...Do I need to brush my teeth? Shower? Feels like everyone is leaving the room on me!
cody Aug 27th, 04, 3:00 PM why don't you go buy them and install them, so we can make a post about them and let you respond to it smile.gif
