I need to upgrade from my stock carrier to either an aftermarket HD steel or aluminum carrier. I have ran across some pretty good deals on used aluminum ones. I would love to use one for the weight savings. What are the pros and cons to one? Any brand preferance? A local said go with Moser and stay away from Strange but did not elaberate on it.

You'll have reduced gear life with the aluminum carrier. Although I know many local racers that run Strange, Moser and if you have the dough Mark Williams IMO is the best. Depends on how much power your planning to hit it with. I chose the Strange iron unit because I preferred the durability at 1500+hp. With over 50 passes leaving @ 7-8lbs of boost it has held up well. I made a gear change about 30 runs in and the old set looked very good. If your @ 3000lbs or slightly over and limit it to 1000hp the aluminum should work fine.
