ive got a 70 chevelle, it has a 383 stroker 76cc 2.02 1.60 valve heads, edelbrock performer rpm cam and hydraulic lifter kit, valve lift .488 to .510. holley intake manifold, edelbrock performer 600cfm carb, th350 trans. The rear end gears shattered once back in the 80s when my dad was driving the car, he went to a junkyard and got another im guessing stock rear end out of another chevelle, now my question is, is there a possibility of shattering the gears again with this new block is i floor the car off the line? i ran out of money buying this new block cause my old 350 got all ****ed up (long story). and i found this 383 stroker at performance auto warehouse, but now im worried of messing up my rear end. let me know if you need anymore information about the car, wondering what your opinions about this are. thanks! OH yeah its a 10 bolt one legger if that helps?
Jeff :beers:

Road Gears? 2.7s? Scary if you are running a stroker. I would guess youll be hearing the clank,,clank ,clank of a spinning driveshaft and car not moving. Throw in a posi carrier and 373s and it would hold up,maby axles too. Even for a 10 bolt. Set up right and they are ALMOST bulletproof.

It's only as good as the weakest part. If you're into hard driving I'd look for something bulletproof. Save up so you only have to do it once. I would suggest a Chevelle 12 bolt, the initial purchase price can be huge but a rebuild is about the same as a 10 bolt.......shop.

this shop told me 2500$ for a 9inch ford rear end with 3.73 gears and it would handle the abuse. but thats a grip of cash i dont have for awhile lol. oh yeah this car is my everyday driver.

I'm short on cash like you. I managed to dig up a 70 12 bolt with an open 3.36 this year for 400 bucks. I bought a 250 locker and cleaned it up with new brakes. So for about 750 bucks I upgraded to a really nice locker 12 bolt from an open 10.

If you floor it off the line,, it should not break anything because it is just going to spin the tire,, a lot. I have a 10 bolt with Eaton posi, 3.73 gear,, was 4.56,, my 350 tranny broke , but not the rear. Eric68 raced a lot with a 10 bolt. Usually you start breaking things when you start hooking real good using race tires. LJ
