: Mouldings
deserttaco Aug 27th, 08, 10:00 PM This may not be the right place for this, If it's not please feel free to let me know. I'm trying to track down some parts for my new project, and one of those has been the drip rail mouldings for my 70 Malibu. From what I understand that re-pop'd units are sub standard, and it'd be best for me to find a set of originals. I found a set (haven't seen them yet) that are supposed to be in good original shape for $100. I don't know what the going rate for these are, and just wanted to get an ieda of what to expect to pay. Should I jump on these if they are in great shape? or keep looking?
Thanks
Steve
oktunes Aug 28th, 08, 8:44 AM If the 70's are the same quality as the 65 repops, I will tell you they are excellent and fit excellent, some of the best repo parts Ihave used. I would think the same company makes them all.
oldtimebaseballfan Aug 28th, 08, 9:14 AM Steve, if they are in good condition, get them. It isn't easy to find used drip rails in good condition. For that reason, if your budget is fine with the price, get them. Maybe make an offer first.
Jim Mac Aug 28th, 08, 9:22 AM If you visit tucson. ive got one side (dont recall which side) you can have for free. jim
Dale H Aug 28th, 08, 9:56 AM OKTUNES,
From which supplier did you purchase your drip rail mouldings from?
Thanks

Rats, I was just in Tucson yesterday... I get down there about once a month. I'll shoot you a PM
oktunes Aug 28th, 08, 2:43 PM got my 65 trim from OPGI back when they had the free shipping. Also got rocker mouldings. They also fit excellent and were a nice product. The rear trunk stainless was OK, but the bottom piece did not have angled corners like the original. The wide chrome bars were not chrome, but extruded aluminum and the shape was ok, but the finish was not the same as the chrome diecast originals. If I could find someone to replate the originals, I would probably put them back on. I got free shipping on all this stuff, but paid a $16 oversize charge. They sent me 4 different packages, but no additional cost.
I got a notice this wek that the 68-72 roof moulding is marked down from $79.99 to $55.99, might be a good time to buy it.
Mike72ss Aug 29th, 08, 7:13 AM Steve, I'm pretty sure the repro's are chromed aluminum and not stainless steel, like the originals. Usually, you will find that used original parts are superior.

deserttaco Aug 29th, 08, 10:52 AM Mike, or anyone else. What does a set of OE drip rail moldings bring in the open market? What should i expect to pay if they are in decent condition?
Mike72ss Aug 29th, 08, 1:03 PM I'd say $50-$150 depending on the condition. There is also a difference between the drip rails from a vinyl top car and a hardtop. I tried to install a set from a hardtop on my vinyl top car and they would not work. I located an original set from a vinyl top car and they snapped right into place. The top channel on the vinyl top set was much bigger allowing for the vinyl that wraps around the driprail.
