: What is this hole for...
Pro67Chevy Feb 28th, 04, 11:55 PM Can someone tell me what is the tapped hole under the fuel pump mount. I don't recall seeing this before, on my small block. This is the first big block I've built. Thanks.

RB69SS396Conv Feb 29th, 04, 9:24 AM Yup, for the FP rod.... it gets a pipe plug afterwards.
SBs have that blockoff plate arrangement instead.
Pro67Chevy Feb 29th, 04, 11:19 AM You guys are the best. thanks.
Thrasher,
thanks, I'd sleep with it under my pillow if I could.

Pro67Chevy Mar 10th, 04, 1:10 PM So I measured the hole and I can't figure out the right pipe plug size. Anyone got it? thanks.
Patrick O'Rourke Mar 10th, 04, 1:44 PM I got my pretty chrome plug from the local speed shop. The two holes on the front side of the engine by the fuel pump. The upper one can be used with a longer bolt to hold your fuel pump rod up while you install pump, not unless you are going electric. if you use mech. pump make sure you remove the bolt you used to hold up the rod. Also remember to use a shorter bolt to put back in hole so oil does not come out. Sorry I can't remember size of plug though. it is common though, maybe 1/2 pipe, can't remember.
77 cruiser Mar 10th, 04, 4:41 PM 3/8 pipe.
Jim
Tom Mobley Mar 10th, 04, 10:03 PM I thought it was 1/2" NPT. But it's been a long time since I did a BB with a mechanical pump. Just make sure you get an allen headed one, if it has a big knob sticking out it can make the fuel pump install "interesting."

2k3Chevelle468 Mar 11th, 04, 11:07 AM Boy I read this post a day late. Yesterday I replaced my electric fuel pump with a Carter 172. I had no idea how to get the rod into the block. After scratching my head for about 20 minutes something told me to try removing the little plug. Went in perfect!! And runs great!!

Jim,
I noticed you have what looks like the generic Milodon copy oil pan.
Not sure about 67 but that pan did not fit in a 66SS, had to get the a real Milodon for the customer that has the two front corners cut at a 45 deg angle.
That pan hit the crossmember right in the corners.
Do you know or does anyone here know if the frame is a bit different in the 67??
Pro67Chevy Mar 12th, 04, 2:32 PM Damn. I hope not. That will kill me.
BillsCamino Mar 12th, 04, 5:10 PM What Mike is saying can be seen somewhat in my picture...

Frames are the same for '66 & '67. :(
Pro67Chevy Mar 12th, 04, 7:43 PM Hey Mike thanks for pointing that out.
At least now maybe I can mock it up with the short block before I spend all that time on final assembly only to find out it won't fit.
Does anyone know the Milodon Part# that fits a '67?

Yep,
that's what I have sitting in the shop, only difference is it is still gold anodized.
Luuuke Mar 14th, 04, 1:47 AM Oh Bill, is that the correct way to run your fuel line? I always thought it would create a "warmer" situation there, or is that just the fragments of different opinions? Looks very nice and clean, maybe it was the plain fuel line and not the aeroquip line. I'll be doing that detail this week and haven't desided as yet where to run it. Also if you could tell me who's set up that is from the carb to the pump. I'd like to do that. Thanks for any help graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Bob Tiley Mar 14th, 04, 1:52 AM Luuke - That is the way the factory ran it and the same way I have it on my big block but I chose to use 1/2" hard line.

I can't really say if there will be a heat isssue. I doubt it, though.
The motor only has dyno time. The car is still in the body shop.
