block:87 truck block(roller) bore .40 over
crank:scat nodular 9000
rods:Stock LT1 or scat/eagle i-beams
pistons:Speedpro powerforged (9-9.8:1 comp)
cam:218/224(.495/.503) 224/230(.503/.510) 222/230(.509/.522)
heads:Pro Topline 180cc (64cc,1.50/1.94) +3angle valve job/port work OR: stock vortech iron heads

intake:edelbrock performer or performer RPM
carb:Barry Grant road demon (625/725cfm) OR speed demon (650/750cfm)
exhaust:hedman 1 5/8 full length w/ dual cutouts and flowmaster catback

how does that setup sound?im aiming for at least 300HP to the wheels (350-400FWHP) this is going to just be a cruiser

which heads should i use? which cam looks best (dont want to have to get a big stall to get the car moving, needs to be STREETABLE)? will stock LT1 rods work? which of the carbs is the best? stick with 1.5 or go with 1.6 RR's?

OR: i was thinking about doing a 383. should i get the Pro Topline 200cfm heads with a 383? what is the most compression u should go with iron heads? is a 383 worth paying the balancing cost? i would use one of the cams above,5.7 rods, ect.

i will be running a TH350 with a stg.1 rebuild,2400 stall and 3.55/3.73 gear.

bottom line i want TORQUE!!!!! not going to be drag raced regularly, but would like to see some high 12's/low 13's when i do go.

thanks for any suggestions

Welcome to TC. Lots of good info here.

For torque, the 383 is the way to go. For some help on matching up the CR and cam follow the link in my sig to the Dynamic Compression Ratio Calculator. Within limits, the higher the DCR the more torque the engine will make.

Depending on the cam and other factors in the engine, 1.6 rockers on the "intakes only" will make a bit more power than 1.5 or 1.6 on both intake and exhaust.

For another ± $100 you can get pistons that are much lighter than the Speed Pro/TRW heavy weights. Take a look at Wiseco's Pro True line. The price includes rings. Try Dirt Track Thunder (http://www.dirttrackthunder.com) for some decent prices. Probe has reasonably priced forgings, too.

For what you want the RPM manifold is an excellent choice. The Performer is barely more than a stock manifold.

I've never use a BG carb but have heard mixed reviews. Holleys are a known factor and work excellent.

Go with 2.02/1.60 valves. All but the smallest SBCs are undervalved so use the larger valves.
