Gentlemen, did a search, found a large article about how to recover seats, hog rings etc., but it did not seem to answer my simple question. I need to get the entire back support section on the driver's side off my 1969 bench seat in order to take it apart and remove some huge lumpy thing that is in there. I have removed the dogleg shaped plastic covering at the bottom corner, revealing a nut or bolt ( forgot which ) anyway a fastener. My question is, "How do I get the other end of it, the one in the center where the seat backs meet, and it pivots when folded forward, off. That's the one. What is holding that together? How does it come off? I need the back completely off this assembly. Thanks for any consideration or assistance. R.B.

R.B.:
The seat back has a hook shaped shaft that fits into the center pivot area. With the dog leg free, lay the seat forward to a 45 degree angle and lift the dog leg side towards the windshield. It should come out.

Reinstall is just opposite.

Thanks Ed, I haven't tried it yet, but it makes all kinds of sense. I think I can manage. I appreciate your time and expertise. Best regards. Rod

No problem Rod. Keep us updated on what you find in the seat back. Will you be reusing the seat back? If not, once you cut the hog rings on the bottom of the seat back, use a box knife across the back side of the seat back and peal it off. This will prevent damage to the foam and cotton batting as you are removing it.
