: New center link issues on 65

I bought a replacement center drag link for my wagon. When I put the inner tie rods in the holes on the link, the holes in the tie rod stud do not show. In my opinion, the hole was not drilled deep enough, but before I go messing it up....am I missing something here? Is there a tapered bit out there that I could buy to get a bigger hole without messing it up?

I appreciate anyone's advice.

I would return the drag link and ask for another.

Take your tie rod with you to show the problem and check any replacement.

To answer your other question, the holes are reamed.

You can buy a reamer but I would return the drag link.

I agree.
Something's not right. Did you replace the inner tierods at the same time too?
Find out what part is not correct and return it.
I wouldn't machine anything...

Thanks guys, I'll have to call Dirt Works, that is who I got the center link from. It is still brand new without any miles on it, and the inner and outer tie rods are new as well.

I'll have to call and see if they can mic the holes and verify what they have compared to what I have.

Uggh, this type of goofy stuff seems to happen all of the time.

Appreciate your input guys.

So I called Dirt Works (company who sold the center link to me) and spoke with someone there who told me for as long as he can remember, they have used ES403L inner tie rods with teh DS740 link. THat particular tie rod is for a 71-76 full size Chevrolet car.

How can that be? If MOOG made the DS740 for a 64-67 car.

So is it ok to use full size car inner tie rods for my chevelle? I'd rather not ream the link.

Thanks,
Rob

Do you have the link on backwards? I believe they are tapered holes. I cant even rememeber if this is possible though, just an idea.
