: Quickie Help w/ BBC Power Steering Pumps
feedphillipnow Jan 25th, 05, 8:01 PM I did a search for many different years of 454 through Kragen's site. I got different pumps w/ res. for almost every year I tried, some say dual rear wheels or single, and the inlet and outlet mounts are in different spots and angles. At this point im slightly confused =) If you go to Kragen try part number 206999 and 208715 these both have 1 in and 1 out, I think these may work out. Thanks in advance.

some of these trucks had hydroboost brakes, which is basically a hydraulic type brake booster which runs off of the ps pump. the pump itself is the same but the reservoir is different.
just look up one for a 72 chevelle with the 454
feedphillipnow Jan 25th, 05, 10:46 PM Sounds good, I found Cardone 206182 on Kragens site for a 72' Chevelle 454. The first one I pulled up for a 90' Truck was double the price, insane! This with reservoir is under $60 with a small core charge. So this will mount ok, I hope I dont have any problems with the hoses and in/outlets, and any fittings I may need. The threads on the power steering boxes were always the same werent they?
feedphillipnow Jan 25th, 05, 11:09 PM Oh yeah, what size bolts should I get? I dont even have the old ones, didnt come with this engine.
I am going to pick up the 206182 Pump, looks good.
feedphillipnow Jan 26th, 05, 3:14 PM Hey, can someone help me with bolt sizes and which part # brackets to buy for the pump? Im looking at NPD or Yearone, or Groundup, whoever is cheaper.
MonteMan454 Jan 26th, 05, 3:30 PM I used 3/8 and 7/16 grade 5 hardware bolts. A GM dealer will have a blown up picture that should tell you the size of the bolts.
You can also pick up all the brackets through a GM dealer telling them to search for a 83 Suburban with a 454. I think at some point the numbers were posted here.
The only special bolt was the stud that is attached to the back which lets the pump pivot to tighten the belt. GM switched to metric female ends I belive in the 80's. You can get an adapter to work for SAE.
feedphillipnow Jan 26th, 05, 3:45 PM Cool, theres a GM dealer across the street, there prices kind of suck on some things though =) There are 2 brackets arent there? The one that helps it slide and adjust for the belt, and the one that mounts it to the block?
feedphillipnow Jan 26th, 05, 4:04 PM Ahh, nothing in stock. I'll probably just go through NPD if they have them.
MonteMan454 Jan 27th, 05, 8:07 AM There should be 2 brackets. A cradle looking one on the bottom and one which be attached to the top.
Another source I would use if I lived in the USA is gmpartsdirect.com. They seem to have very good prices. Just punch in the part number and see what the deal is.
