I need to patch a small area of the frame on the opposit side of the frame where the idler arm bolts up. Would you recommend a butt weld or should I overlap a little.
Thanks in advance

Anyway to put a picture up, when it comes to a frame, it might not be a good idea to tell somebody to do something without seeing it.

But overlapping it would be stronger, but you would probably see it.

You need to cut the area out larger then what needs to be patched. If it is from a crack holes have to be drilled at the ends of the cracks. The last one I did I put the patch on the inside and plated over the outside. Takes a lot longer and you need to cut grind and weld twice as much but it is far stronger. So you will wind up with a butt welded plate ground flush and a brace plate over the top if that makes sense.
