to start: are all retro-fit hydro roller lifters the same height?

on my 396, i bought the Lunati hyd roller (retro fit) cam # 60211. Lunati Retro fit kit # 65406 and also the Lunati pushrods # 80160 (intake 7.725", Exhaust 8.684"). got it started but it pops and bangs out of the exhuast and backfires through the carb. couldnt figure it out.

then i was browsing around and found that Crane Cam have pushrods for roller retro fits # 13628-16 (intake 7.531", exhaust 8.531").

if i assume that all retro fit rockers are the same height, then why are the pushrod lengths different? could i have just bought the wrong rod length?

please help?!

TIA

I'm running a voodoo 60212 with all isky valve trane and the isky pushrods are .650 shorter than stock for the roller lifters.
Big Block 3970-HYRT (Anti pump-up) .842” Int: 7.650” 203-96-.650” N/A
Chevy V-8 (1967-UP) Ex: 8.600”
How far did you thighten the adjuster nut. I have mine adjusted 1/2 turn after the I felt tension turning the nut with my fingers. You might have the nuts too tight and the lifters are pumped up and keepin the valves open. Use the exhaust starts to open adjust the intake rocker and adjust the exhaust when the intake opens and and starts to close method. some people spin the pushrod with their fingers while turning the nut with their fingers and then add the 1/2 turn after the pushrod get snug.

should get a pushrod length checker to begin with to check the correct ones you will need.

to start: are all retro-fit hydro roller lifters the same height?:noway: many are slightly different length

on my 396, i bought the Lunati hyd roller (retro fit) cam # 60211. Lunati Retro fit kit # 65406 and also the Lunati pushrods # 80160 (intake 7.725", Exhaust 8.684"). got it started but it pops and bangs out of the exhuast and backfires through the carb. couldnt figure it out.

then i was browsing around and found that Crane Cam have pushrods for roller retro fits # 13628-16 (intake 7.531", exhaust 8.531").

if i assume that all retro fit rockers are the same height, :noway: you can not assume they are the same/proper length.

then why are the pushrod lengths different? because of the different heads, head gasket thickness, valve lengths. valve stem heights, etc.

could i have just bought the wrong rod length?:yes:it appears that the hydraulic roller pushrods length needed on a bb-chev will be shorter than the stock length by 0.150"-0.600"= you must measure for the correct length or problems will follow........:(

please help?! :mad:i tried the retro-roller pushrods on my bb-chev and they were not the correct length, several of them bent showing me i had wasted the money spend on the cheaper pushrods in the first place.
i hope your pushrods are not bent also - that could be a reason for your engine backfiring.....

TIA check it out - good luck:thumbsup:
