I have retro fit hyd roller lifters going in my sb 408 and was wondering how to measure for length? I have no solid roller to go by except for a partial set from a BB. Would one of them work or can I do it with the hyd lifter some how?

Thanks

No, std. solid rollers & flat tappets take approx. the same push rod length but hyd rollers take a much shorter pushrod.
Easiest way is to use a light checking spring on the valve & check the pattern. Just be sure the lifter doesnt collapse when checking.

edit:
If you can't use a checking spring set the pattern just to the intake side of center on the valve tip when the valve is closed & the cam is on the base circle & you will be very close ;)

When i had a hyd. cam, i just took apart the lifter and put tiny washers under the plunger until it was tight when you put it back together, so that it wouldnt collapse when it got pressure from the spring. Worked for me :)Of course this was with a hyd. flat tappet lifter, and ive never dealt with hyd. rollers, so im not sure if you can do this with one
