Hi guys. I took my street 454 69 Chevelle to the 1/4 track for the first time last sunday.(Test & Tune) 400 tranny was shifting into 2nd on it's oun. Maybe even starting in 2nd I didn't here it shift and when i shifted into 2nd it was already in 2nd. Shifts ok at low rpms.
410 rear gears. Hoosier quick time pro 27x10.5 15
No traction assist. Only Hotchkis boxed rear control arms. I ordered air bags Sunday night. What do I need to get me in the high 10s. If thats possible. Going threw the lites at 6,400 rpm.

Tires, Tranny, Traction what ever.

We need to know your entire combination in great detail to be able to give any assistance. Also, what elevation is the track you run at and what are typical weather conditions you run in?

Based on your speed, the car is capable of running 11.35 - 11.40 if it hooks and everything else is right. That still means you need an additional 50 - 75 hp to get into the 10s.

Ron The governor in the trans will need to be modified to correct this. Easiest way to the 10s without changing your combo would be the bottle

Hi guys I took the 69 Chevelle to the track yesterday. Results were good.
I changed the 400 tranny to a performance automatic street/strip 350 with reverse valve body. I think this was the best change. What a difference it made. smile.gif Went from 800 cfm to a 950 HP straight from the box. Added the rear air bags. (air=left 0lbs right 7lbs) Same rear tires=12lbs.(Wheels are repo SS wheels)I know slicks are needed, but not yet.
I ran at Mason Dixon 1/4 track. Elevation 535.
Heated the tires good. Left at at 1500 rpms. No line loc, brake only. Here is the best time. I think it will go into the high to mid tens next year.
The front suspension is all stock with sway bar. What do I need for better weight transfere. Maybe tubular A arms. If so which would be the best to go with for the street use with disc brake system?
When I get all the specs together. I will post them.(454 to what !! :D
Thanks guys.

Get your car to dead hook and you will be in the 10's...a tenth off your 60 will get you there......

Scott NICE 70 YOU HAVE.
I feel the same way. Dead hook will do the job. I need to make some changes over the winter. Summer months, air will be a lot different then. Have to accomadate the weather.
Did you have to modify the frame rails for the mini tubbs?

graemlins/thumbsup.gif real nice improvement! Please, do post the entire setup when you get the chance.

Is this a pump gas car ?
What RPM are you going over at now?

What was you rpm at the lights with the 11.09. I would go to a little taller tire(slicks)and i think you will be in the 10s.

BigRed when I get the specs together. I will post.
Going threw the lights at 6,600rpm. I realy think the tranny made the big difference. This is a pump gas Chevelle 93 octane.

Darracq I know the slicks will get me there. I think I really have to work on the suspension and tune the motor some.

Scott, I was wondering about the tubbs. This was a test & tune day. When I ran the car. There is no roll bar. I was told to slow it down or leave. So I slowed it down. I have to take it off the frame to do it right, before the roll bar goes in. Thats when the mini tubbs might come into play.
I think I know what I have to do for next season. Get a part time job.
One more thing when watching the video. The car is loosing traction. Bouncing from rear to front then back to rear. Something like weight transfering from front to rear then front again to rear for maybe 80 feet. How can I control this?
Thanks guys
Ron

Ezstriper The car and myself as driver. Weights 3,800 lbs. All steel. With suspension work and some other mods. No NOS. My goal is to be in the 10.8 range next spring. Top goal is 10.5 Then i'm done.
Will a new paint job knock off some time?
