IM looking to upgrade my current motor with some newer technology. Currently IM running a 406 sbc, stock length rods, 041 heads, Crower solid lift cam, 243-248 duration at .50,.496-.503 lift,107 ls, 1.6 full rollers, msd ignition, rpm air gap intake, 750 edl carb, 1 3/4 headers, 2 1/2 exhaust, 3000 stall, 411 rear gears, 28 inch tall back tire, car wighs about 3400-3500 with me in it. I will drive on cruises and take my daughter to the store occasionally. I am wanting to crack the 500 hp & 500 tq area. Do you have any suggestions. No NOS please. Thanks

I would give Mike a call and discuss it with him, he was very helpfull with me. I just purchased the Afr 195's through him and am very happy with them. I have a very similar motor(406) I have about the same duration but about .020" less lift
on the cam. Also have an rpm air gap and 750 holley with a proform main body
Mine pulls really stong all the way up to 6000-6500 rpm. I'm no expert but if you want it to be streetable you may not want to go much bigger on the cam, maybe just a good set of heads will be all you need to reach your goal, you may want to go a bit bigger then the 195's though but Mike can help you decide that. With the cam I have my motor is very streetable, It has good vac, idles at 800 rpm and I drive it all over the place, the only thing I wish is that I had maybe a bit more cam but I don't want to loose the bottem end. What does your car run in the 1/4 now?

68lokomino,
What's the compression?
Intake is excellent to about 6000-6200 but I'd prefer a Holley HP950 for your goals. Not a real fan of the EDE carb :D
The EDE seems to have excellent street manners but I have seen pretty good HP gains going from a 750 EDE to a 750 Holley on a couple of occasions.

I like your cam for a 406 around 10.0 but think it will need a bit more for an honest 500HP.
I would like more lift especially with some good heads. Something closer to .600.

My head choice would be either the AFR 195 or the Brodix RaceRite 200cc head with the CNC chamber option.
The Brodix wiill actually outflow the AFR 210 to about .400 which are the numbers that are important if you are running a .500-.550 lift cam.

If you email me I can probably save you a few dollars on either head if you are interested ;)

Hey Wolfplace. This is lokomino. I know a different ID for my home computer. The compression is 10.5 to 1. I want to run as large a cam that will work with either the race rites or the AFR. IM pretty sure I would prefer the AFR. One more question. I will need to stay with straight spark plugs. No angle plug. Thanks
