: quarter window sloppy
flpackerbacker Aug 22nd, 08, 12:22 AM my drivers rear quarter window is hard to roll up and down an can be moved by and forward and back.did a search and thought it would be a roller issue.removed the window. all rollers look good however the springs for the front lower roller was missing.was also missing on pass side but pass side worked fine.remove pass side to compare and all looks the same.cleaned all parts of the 38 years off crud and multiple paint jobs.after reassembly same results:(.can't see any obvious problem.order new lower roller as this seamed to be most common part.any suggestions???

Verle Aug 22nd, 08, 6:47 PM You say all the rollers look good. Are they all secure on their shafts or do they wobble?
Another possibility is one or more channels loose or slipped out of position.

flpackerbacker Aug 22nd, 08, 6:54 PM 2 rollers are secure on shaft.front top roller is loose but from what I've seen this is normal.pass side is same and works fine.the springs were missing on both and installing helped but drivers side window still is sloppy.when the windows were out I installed the guides to the windows and both sides felt the same.I feel that it is a roller/guide issue but can't see the problem.plan to remove it again this weekend but want to fix befor installing since they are such a pita.

BigBlockJoe Aug 24th, 08, 9:34 PM I had same problem with my drivers side quarter window. It was hard to roll up. I took it apart and found no broken rollers. I then looked at the regulator, and it was bent. I straightened it out, and it became easier to roll up. It still has some play front to back, but I'm not sure how to fix that.
flpackerbacker Aug 25th, 08, 1:24 PM pulled it back apart this weekend.still did not see anything.replace lower roller just because a I had a new one.seems to move better in guide on bench test.possible that the rooler was binding? will check regulator.what is everyone using to lube the assy .do the make white lith that you can brush on?hate to spray on and make a mess

Russell auto upholstery Aug 28th, 08, 1:59 AM The best thing that I have always found IF the rollers and etc are good or new is TONS of lube. I use the cans of heavy grease for wheel bearings and etc. Its messy but I just get a good amount on my fingers and hand and just lube evey crook and cranny on all the tracks and rollers. I know it sounds too simple to fix the problems, but it works wonders!
flpackerbacker Aug 28th, 08, 9:36 AM that's next.lube never hurts:Dwashed off the 38 year old stuff.reinstall this weekend and retest

df021045 Aug 30th, 08, 3:15 PM Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with my window roller on the left hand rear side. Window wouldn't move up or down so I removed the side panel and back seat so I could find the problem. I could see the back (lower) roller was in pieces. I have order a new roller piece from OPG but I can't see how the lower roller can be replaced. It appears that a stud shaft (approx'ly 1/4") dia is molded to the window section with the roller piece attached to the shaft. My question, do I have have to completly remove the window to replace the lower roller piece or can I make the repair with the window intact? Also, it appears that I would have to drill the old shaft out as it looks it was originally molded with a rubber piece surrounding the 1/4" shaft and rollers attached. If someone has replaced these rollers any infl would be greatly appreciated, thanks.....

Agreed.
I used CLP Breakfree (the same stuff I use on my Glock) on all of my window mechanisms.
The stuff was designed for, and is used by the military as a multi purpose lubricant, cleaner, and protectant for all of it's firearms...it's great.

(You can get it at Wal-Mart too, in their firearms section).
Spraying this stuff on all the window mechanisms in my Chevelle solved ALL issues with sticky, binding windows.
