They have great prices on Canfield Heads for example.

Are they taking more money on handling and Shipping?

I have purchased products from them. They are about 180 miles north of me in Wisconsin. Shipping from Wisconsin to Sweden is gonna be what it is gonna be, not too cheap. :(

Otherwise i order from Jegs or Summit.

Or by friends using the flight 2-3 times a month to chigago.

So handling and freight are normal prices in US?

Stefan,
Shipping will cost you a noticable amount for anything heavy, yet fragile (not to be dropped). I have ordered some Competition Products and have been happy so far. Some times I find it better to deal with a "smaller" company. More customer appreciation.

I'll be coming to Sweden in April. Still down near Copenhagen like last time. City is called Hamstadt (or something like that). You want to recomend anything I should do or see?

Have you seen that Hollywood is making a movie about you? "Godsend" graemlins/thumbsup.gif congrats. :D

I've purchased from them as well. Good people to deal with, and, as stated before, they appreciate their customers.

They charge 3% extra for credit cards.

Shipping prices are based on weight and distance. It can add up in a hurry even to places in the US.

They are my "second" source after Summit.

Not so bad b/c the sales tax here in Columbia, Missouri in the center of the country is like 7.75 percent in town....

And I too have good things to say about C/P's ...

They are my "second" source after Summit. Well I do have to defend CP on this one. The 3% charge is only because they DO Not charge this to people who prefer to use COD or send them a check or money order. SO if you use other methods than a Credit Card you do not have to pay the 3% the Credit Card Companies Charge Them to accept the card. This is what helps keep the prices lower from them.

Take for instance the BBC Carter 172 Pump, it is $75.95 from Competition Products (Used to be $85 last year)and $93.99 from Summit. Shipping is the same from CP as the $8.95 Handling Fee from
Summit.

Comp Products discontinued the 3% Discount for non Credit Card orders 1 1/2 Years Ago because of Complaints about 3% extra graemlins/clonk.gif ..All the complainers did was Shaft the people who paid by other means.

Competition Products has been good to me. They have a distribution center here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The esky shortblocks they sell are machined and assembled in Escanaba Mi. It's been very nice being able to order and pickup from a local distributer. The sales tax kinda sucks though on larger orders.

I've ordered from them twice and have no complaints. FWIW, I'm happy with Summit and Jegs too.

Anyone bought heads from them?
Any problems?

I have a friend who is interested in their SBC Top Line Torker heads.
He has had problems with Summit assembled heads and their guides and valves. So he is a bit leary of mail order, but he is cheap and this is for his pickup. In other words he might take a chance.

I disagree with the guys here that are trying to find excuses for them justifying the 3% charge.

This is 2004, and it is a technology driven world. For someone to charge for credit card/debit card use is rediculous IMO.

Also, Tom, other parts are cheaper at Summit. I just did a quick check out of curiosity and some of Summit's prices were cheaper, some were the same. I think Summit's buying power will win most of the time...

Here is one of many customer service examples; last Sunday I was installing my head studs and run in to one nut that had no threads!!! Called Summit and they said that they would call ARP on Monday and have a nut sent to me. I told them that this would not work for me.

Monday morning they overnighted a brand new set of studs to me at THEIR cost. I got it Tuesday 9:00 AM smile.gif Many such examples in the last few years.

And lastly, how does CP support racing and racers? We all know Summit's role and support to that community.

I have always purchased from Summit, have always gotten great service and pricing...If I am not purchasing from them, I purchase locally...my local part shop does not charge a debit card fee:)

You won't have to pay sales tax, that's a regional/local thing. If you buy it locally, or mail order within your own state, you get the priviledge of paying the tax. Order outside the state = cheap ride.
The only surcharge you may run into is an import duty. Have you had to pay "duty" before?
I say have your friend hand-carry your parts over for you. Let's see, one aluminum head per bag just may get by with out extra cost...

I have had good experience with them as well. But, they have changed thier on line catalog and it appears they have less products now. Maybe thier printed catalog is better.

We have 4% + 25% tax on everything to sweden. Thats why its important to carry things in bags. writing down value on orders etc.

Yanniz, Nobody is disputing Summits Customer Service, I use them all of the time and have had similar experiences. And I am not justifying anyones prices or charges, just stating fact.

If you read my post you will notice CP discontinued the discount to non-credit card users 1 1/2 years ago. They have since added the cost in to the typical cost to everybody like everyone else does including Jegs, Summit, Mobil, Walmart, Mc Donalds, etc., etc.,etc., etc. This is Simple Business theory. If anyone out there thinks for 1 second they are paying that credit card surcharge they are quite mistaken. How many have gotten a discount for a cash deal, somewhere, anywhere,..Think about it...most of us have.

Remember when the gas companies tried the cost reduction to Cash Customers? I do any many do also. For those who don't, about 10 years ago There were 2 prices depending on how you paid - Credit Card or Cash. Well the same thing happened, too many complaints because people felt they were paying a surcharge for credit cards. SO they just assummed Everyone would use a Credit Card and dropped the lower cash price. So we all now pay the Credit Card price (+2% to +3%) even if we pay cash. graemlins/clonk.gif

A lot of prices are similar yes, but here are some examples of parts a lot of use or will use.

Crane Gold Race Rockers 13750-16 CP=237.95, Summit = $279.95
Comp Cams Superlocks 10 degree #612-16, CP = $19.95, Summit = $25.95
Comp Cams Guide Plates for 3/8 pushrods #4806-8, CP=$28.95, Summit = $46.69
Crane Valve Springs #99893, CP= $74.95, Summit = $125.95
Manley Severe Duty Valve #11520 3/8 2.19” CP=$18.50, Summit = $18.50
MSD 6AL CP=$194.95, Summit = $195.95
MSD 7AL2, CP=$324.95, Summit = $329.95
ATI – 917740 7” Ext Balance BBC, CP=$309.95, Summit = $319.95
ARP Bolts, just about same prices + or - $1.00
Crane Solid Roller Lifters #13519-16, CP=$279.95, Summit = $279.95
Isky SB Camshaft 201281, CP= $94.95, Summit $99.95
Crane Titanium Retainers 10 Degree #99631-16, CP= $99.95, Summit = $186.95..Ouch!
FelPro Head Gaskets F1037 BBC, CP=36.95, Summit $39.95
Dart Pro-1 Head for BBC Part DRT-19100010 $1399.96 a pair in CP, Summit = $849.95 Each ($1699.99)

The funny thing is, these prices were not carefully selected, But selected Randomly...

As far as supporting racing..you are talking Apples and Oranges..Maybe when CP's sales reach 1/20 of Summits sales they will be able to significantly contribute to National Events.

CP product inventory and parts availibility doesn't come close to the buying power of Summit or Jegs, but some price competition for them will help us ALL.

It is a good thing we have price competition, in both performance and restoration parts or most of us would be paying a lot more for what we have.

For example they sell Canfield 310cc heads Assembled for 1399$

They sell Cranes Roller Lifter (hor) for 199$

Thats 2 awesome prices...
