Hi guys/gals.
I came across this car about 4 months ago on the dealer's lot. The dealer's owner makes CRAZY money & has almost a dealership for every car brand out there in Massachusetts.
Anyways, I saw the car, my fiance & I pulled in to check it out. One of the sales reps comes out & I start asking him questions about the car. Car was going for $38,000 at that time and that turned me off a bit. It is NOT a numbers matching car, which is fine with me, since I will be going the restomod route later on down the line. It is completely restored and I'm not sure if the engine is the 325 or 375 horsepower version. Not too crazy about the bench seats and column shifter, but I will be rarely driving the car, except maybe to car shows.
Now, judging by the pics, do you think it looks okay/correct for a '69 Chevelle SS? I asked for more info regarding the car and am waiting for their reply. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.:yes::beers:

I have no idea what it's worth, but the add you posted a link to says the price is $29,777. I don't think I pay more than that anyway.

Yes. The price did drop from 38k to 30k. That is why I have a "sudden interest" in the car. Plus, I will be able to talk them down some from the current asking price of 29,777.:thumbsup:

TH350 trans???????? Nice looking car. But without original engine or "real" documentation, Its just an overpriced Malibu with a BB engine and SB trans.
Is the rear 10 bolt or 12 bolt??

the 350 trans wasn't the automatic option on a '69 SS.
ONLY auto was a 400 Turbo Hydramatic.
nice looking exterior wise.
pretty steep price i think

I'm kind of new with the Chevelles, which is why I'm asking the experts. I'm not looking for a "numbers" matching car as I stated above. I want to go the restomod route sometime in the future with this car.
So, is the transmission not strong/worthy enough to withstand the big block engine? Please let me know. I do not want to find out the hard way.
THANKS GUYS!!!!:thumbsup::beers:

if your going resto mod, there are far better deals to be had out there. in this market, you could buy a real #' matching car, for what he's asking. that is a real pretty car, and i'd be happy to own it, but i think he's steep.

if you have 30k to throw at a car, you could buy a less expensive car, and probably come close to finishing it under 30k, not start at 30k and have to drop $ you'll never get back into it....there are several cars on this site for sale, for better price, leaving you plenty of $ to restomod it......

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I do agree with you about the steep price. I threw them an offer well below 2 grand of asking price. So, we'll see what happens.
Now with the trans being a TH350 auto, will that be good/strong enough to hold up to the 396 BB??

Good looking car but too much money. Not enough info in ad. If it is the orginal engine it is not the 375 hp,by the pics it is a a/c car. No ac on 375 hp engines. If you are going to do a resto mod I would shop around.

To answer your question the TH350 trans is not as strong as the TH400 in a stock state. I think what everybody is trying to say is they doubt this is a reall SS396 because they ALL came with a TH400 when in automatic form. Some people prefer to build a TH350 trans to make it as strong (or stronger) than a TH400 because it weighs less than a TH400. Overall I have to agree with everybody that if you're going to resto mod it anyway, you could start with a better car for less money. I would look for a car that is not an SS to save money from the "SS markup".

Thank you mmurphy. I appreciate your explaination. That is the answer I was looking for. So, with all that being said, this car is a NOT a real SS car?:(

Well if the motor is not numbers matching and we know the TH350 is wrong then it might not be a true SS. Unfortunately in '69-'72 the SS package became an option on the Malibu, so they will all have a Malibu vin#. If the engine numbers matched the vin then that it would likely be an SS since the SS only came with the 396 engine in '69. Unfortunately in this day and age of counterfeit EVERYTHING there's no guarantee on anything. That's why I believe if you're going to restomod something, start with a base model and take the whole authentification out of the equation.
