: The most amazing single car crash ever
figbash Aug 21st, 08, 11:40 AM You see it all the time; people taking unnecessary chances while driving to shave a few extra seconds off their commute. I witnessed the most outrageous example of that behavior on my way to work this morning.
I was Westbound on I-94 at the US-23 overpass in the right lane, just east of Ann Arbor. It is a sunny day and traffic was light. As I passed under US-23 I caught a glimpse of a car passing me in the left lane at a high rate of speed (I'm pushing 80). What happened next boggles the mind. The guy that was passing me decided that he needed to make the southbound US-23 exit immediately after the overpass. He proceeded to cut in front of me heading for the exit ramp at which point I had to brake hard to keep from hitting him. Much to his surprise, there was already a car on the exit ramp which by the way has a speed limit of 25mph. To make a long story short, there was no way this guy's brand new Malibu was going to take a 25mph turn at 70 plus and this guy ran out of luck, skill and road all at the same time. The last I saw of him he was sideways at what had to be 70mph plus, clipping off sign posts and heading for the gully. I don't know if he rolled it or not but judging by his lack of skill and judgment, I suspect that he did.
The good news is that he didn't take out anyone else due to his stupidity.

Andy69 Aug 21st, 08, 11:52 AM I hope he lived to learn the hard lesson.
I always keep in mind, if I am tempted to speed because I am running late, that if I get pulled over or get in a wreck, that I will be way late, or maybe not arrive at all.
MalibuMike70 Aug 21st, 08, 11:57 AM I hope he lived to learn the hard lesson.
I don't believe these people will ever learn. If he's taking chances like that putting other people lives at risk, I doubt he will.
crazychevelleman Aug 21st, 08, 12:08 PM :noway: I hear somany times of people who just stand by as someone is beat up or hurt. I saw a video once of a guy who was crossing the street, he was ran over by a car. As he layed in the road for 15 miniutes people driving and walking by just looking at the man. The only one who helped was a patroling police officer passing by and seen the man in the roadway. I hope you called it in just incase he was hurt. I would hate to think that you just kept going, Judging him Stupid and deserving of his hurt. After all we all make mistakes and have in the past. maby God wont judge us stupid when we stand before him for not helping? I mean after all do to him what you would want people to do to you. Just my 2 pennys worth.
barryt Aug 21st, 08, 12:11 PM Well he got what he deserves.
I don't always wish bad come to people but some do really deserve it.
It always amazes me on how people have to race past you (me doing 8 to 10 mph over the speed limit) to get in front of you to make the exit.
Or the really inpatent one who will not wait in line like all the others race past everyone then cut someone off to get back in line. Saw this the other day this lady raced past us setting in line to get off the interstate on the exit cut someone off to get in the right turn lane. Well she lost a tire when she did and never made it to the right turn. When I got up to her she was staring at the tire yelling at her cell phone. LG

I-94 is very dangerous with the heavy truck traffic between Detroit and Chicago. I have seen more accidents on it in person than any other road/freeway/interstate. Around US-23 especially.
I wonder how his driving would have been during a rush hour?
ss1970chev454 Aug 21st, 08, 12:27 PM yeah I would have stopped, drug him from his car and beat the % out of him.
1BLACKHARLEY Aug 21st, 08, 12:43 PM well it happened again the other day. they are doing road work around my home, and in different places on different days, you have to merge to give the cal trans guys room to work. i was heading home, and it came time to merge, i started to move over, guy next to me won't let me in....no problem, even a harley can accelerate faster than most cars, so i head around and find a spot ahead, well i hear a huge BANG!, and the idiot who wouldn't let me in, had rear ended the car in front of him. i stop to see if everybody is o.k. an off duty officer jumps out to help. the guy who wouldn't let me in, complains to the officer that "he tried to cut me off", the officer looks him straight in the eye and asks him, "then why did you rearend this guy, and not smash the harley?" of course he didn't have an answer to that.....

Maybe "God" was just attempting to thin the gene pool. Who am I to interfere? ;)
Les Saville Aug 21st, 08, 2:03 PM Ever notice how many people run the red light while making a turn at an intersection? I have ADHD and I'm not even in that big of a hurry! :waving:

All I can say is: WOW!
Chevelle_Nut Aug 21st, 08, 3:32 PM Yesterday on I-40 in Hickory I was going 65 and a white Jeep moves out from behind me and passes all of a sudden he cuts in front of me to exit. I looked at him, threw up my hand in disgust and went on.
The idiots are everywhere!
furball8994 Aug 21st, 08, 4:09 PM well it happened again the other day. they are doing road work around my home, and in different places on different days, you have to merge to give the cal trans guys room to work. i was heading home, and it came time to merge, i started to move over, guy next to me won't let me in....no problem, even a harley can accelerate faster than most cars, so i head around and find a spot ahead, well i hear a huge BANG!, and the idiot who wouldn't let me in, had rear ended the car in front of him. i stop to see if everybody is o.k. an off duty officer jumps out to help. the guy who wouldn't let me in, complains to the officer that "he tried to cut me off", the officer looks him straight in the eye and asks him, "then why did you rearend this guy, and not smash the harley?" of course he didn't have an answer to that.....
Now thats funny Bill.
I had a similar thing happen to me last week. I drive a dump truck and was coming off of I70 trying to merge onto I695. As I came to a gap (large enough for a tractor trailer) in traffic, The guy that had fallen back decided to close the gap on me. He was so determined to not let me in he slammed into the car in front of him... I just waved and merged into the now open lane in front of the poor woman that no longer had a trunk on her car....
I was on the I-94 in Michigan last weekend. Just before midnight a cop flies past on the way to an accident up the road. A minivan spun out for no valid reason and got clipped by an 18-wheeler. No injuries, but :clonk:
Last Tuesday I was driving eastbound along the 401 in Toronto in the collector lanes. I am in lane #1 because a transfer to the express lanes is coming up. The car in front of me hits the brakes, pulls into lane #2 AND STOPS! There are 5 lanes of dense traffic moving between 90 - 120 km/h (55 - 70 mph). The guy (who was on the phone) decided that he wanted to make the exit to the right, directly to the right across all those lanes of traffic. I was dumfounded! What a complete idiot! It's a wonder he didn't get creamed or cause an accident. If it were me I'd drive up the road and set up for the next exit and get pointed in the right direction without making rash & stupid driving errors.
That same day I was pulling out of my neighborhood with a green light. A guy in a Jeep blows the red light like it wasn't even there. He was yacking on his cell phone. Come to think of it I've seen 2 other Jeeps in the past run that light like it wasn't there, both times the driver was on the phone. I wonder if it was the same driver?
... the guy who wouldn't let me in, complains to the officer that "he tried to cut me off", the officer looks him straight in the eye and asks him, "then why did you rearend this guy, and not smash the harley?" of course he didn't have an answer to that.....
I think of Red Green telling the cop "The other driver should be charged with leading too close!" or 'The other driver failed to acknowledge that I might run the red light!"
On the 404 going north out of the city a young guy and his girlfriend were flying along around 200 km/h or so (120+ mph) when he decided to make the exit. Naturally he went wide, flew up the guardrail, went up the embankment and went end over end repeatedly. The driver wasn't seriously hurt but his passenger, if she makes it, will be a parapalegic at a minimum.
Going fast is not necessarily dangerous, but too fast for conditions, traffic or driver's ability can be tragic. It was found that when you set speed limits artificially low you get a situation where some people strictly adhere to it, most people ignore it and drive a sensible speed, and some really fly. You end up with a situation where there is too great a variance between the slowest and fastest cars, which is more dangerous. Realistic speed limits tend to have a much better compliance rate and traffic moves more safely and with a lesser degree of variance between the slowest and fastest traffic. Take that, 55 mph advocates!
Peloose Aug 21st, 08, 5:55 PM There's a lot of Dopes out there.

rianbechtold Aug 21st, 08, 6:16 PM The other day I was getting on the 215 freeway. It was in a part where they were doing construction, two lanes, and the on ramp merges with the slow lane. Well, I'm getting on behind a few cars slowed down by a trash truck. I look in my rearview mirror and see a semi flying down the slow lane! He all of a sudden whips out and drives 3 cars into the center shoulder and then heads back towards the slow lane, RIGHT TOWARDS ME! I turn GRADUALLY into the soft sand shoulder anticipating the impact and realizing I was going to be forced there anyways! The car behind me wasn't smart enough and tried to accelerate from behind the truck to in front of him:confused: Well, I see him get hit off the road into a fence and tip on his side!
It was like a scene out of a movie!!! Then the cops came and it was a HUGE fiasco and the semi driver claimed that EVERYONE tried to run him off the road!!!??? I left because I had no damage, the semi truck driver was being arrested, the car that tried to accelerate past the truck was getting medical attention AND receiving a reckless driving ticket, it was insane!
55Redneck Aug 21st, 08, 7:54 PM Going back two and a half decades or so, I was thumbing a ride to my lead players house with guitar in hand and I'm standing at a T-junction. A young girl comes up and stops at the T in her old bug and it stalls. Some scuzzy looking guy comes up behind her in a beater 4 door 63 Chevy II and starts laying on his horn because she's not moving. Duh dude, she's trying to get it started. This guy is laying on the horn for about 20-30 seconds before he finally gets P/O'd enough to slam his Chevy II into reverse and stomp on the gas. What Scuzzo dude didn't notice is while he was doing his road rage horn honking was that a rather large, mean looking "gentleman" in a new black Caddy had pulled up behind him and that Chevy II did a pretty good number on the Caddy's front end. I never got to see the end of that scenario because someone pulled over to give me a ride, but I suspect scuzzo dude got a pretty bad beating that day. :D
PaPa Johns 77 Aug 21st, 08, 7:59 PM The stories I could tell about dumb drivers after a million and a half miles OTR. But they are the same most of you have experienced, same dumb driving different driver, place and time.
The fatal ones are the ones that stay with you.
Brian_d Aug 21st, 08, 8:36 PM I saw a glass truck - the type that holds panes of glass vertically in the back - floor it at the signal at the top of the freeway on-ramp. The glass slid out the back & shattered into a million peices. I'll bet his hurry ruined his day!
Chris R Aug 21st, 08, 9:56 PM If people like these are going to be that stupid on the road then they get exactly what they deserve.
