: Rob Kinnan: Hot Rod Mag Article
Ricks70ss Aug 20th, 08, 6:39 PM Ok if you get Hot Rod magazine. Read page 8. By Rob. Its a really good view point on Nascar. G.M. Ford , Chrysler. Going out of business. Then drop out of Nascar. Save a ton of $$$$. All the cars look alike anyways. Everyone one is just rooting for the favorite number anyways. Not like back in the day. Where it was Ford racing Chevy or Dodge. Sow me a car coming off the assembly line that looks like one of those cars they race now!!! Before it was Race on Sunday sell on Monday. Not any more. I want to see a Chevy malibu race a Dodge Charger. Or a Ford. The only thing that looks like Chevy or Dodge is the grill. Give me a break. This isn't anything to do about Ford against Chevy or Chevy against Chryler. I started to watch car racing back when I was a kid on t.v. They had it on friday night. At Motorcity raceway. Then came Nascar. In 1968 they showed a new Ford Torino on the commerical. I loved that car. Nice fast back small block red with nice wheels. I went an bought one. A lot of us did I bet. Then maybe Nascar would have to go back to the old ways. Show me a part on these cars that you can get off the assy line. Yeah Right. Read the article in Hot Rod issue oct 2008. With the yellow Chevelle on the cover. :beers::yes::hurray::D:)
lemonice Aug 20th, 08, 6:55 PM its the same in dirt racing.. wing modified, late model, ump, you dont know what brand they are running. they all look alike. only differant numbers.DRAG RACING is about the only place where you can most of the time tell what the car is. 55 chevy,69 chevelle,65 mustang,69 camaro, etc...
Chevello Aug 20th, 08, 9:16 PM Try SCCA Club racing. They ARE the real cars. ANd in the GT classes, they might be tube frame coilover cars, but they have to use a factory roof, decklid and windshield still.
Oh and the races are 30 minutes or longer, not between 4 and 10 seconds. ;)

hbcruiser Aug 20th, 08, 10:04 PM I read that page in the new hot rod and I agree with what Rob is saying:hurray:
quikss Aug 20th, 08, 11:09 PM I can't stand NASCAR, but isn't racing about driver against driver? If it is just straight car against car, why even have drivers and just make them remote control or something like that?

Chris R Aug 21st, 08, 12:39 AM Makes sense to me too. Lost intrest in Nascar many years ago. At this point, might as well remove the OEM logos off the cars and use the space to pitch some other product. The cars are all the same even if the engines underneath are not IMO.
novaderrik Aug 21st, 08, 4:05 AM wow.. another "i hate NASCAR" thread- and one that offers absolutely nothing that hasn't already been stated 1000 times here before. hell, Kinnan probably copied and pasted his editorial right from the thread archives here on chevellesdotcom...
ok, we get it.. no one likes NASCAR any more- but then why keep talking about it? move on and think about things you actually like.
Ricks70ss Aug 21st, 08, 8:55 AM Derrick: Ok I like Muscle cars, pretty women, And Harley's, Cold Beer, pretty women. Muscle cars that sound like their going 150 mph while idleing. & pretty women. ha ha ha. I was just trying to get a point across. I don't hate Nascar. Just what they have done to the sport. Also what they did to the cars.
novaderrik Aug 21st, 08, 2:53 PM as someone else already pointed out- the Nextel Cup boys run in cars that are about as "stock" as the "stock cars" you can see at any local dirt track anywhere in the country (and Canada).
the only "stock" race cars any more are in the lower "bomber" classes- everything else is just a tube chassis car with 3 feet of G body frame rails up front to qualify as a "stock" chassis and any one of 4 or 5 different urethane noses on it to make it look like either an 80's or 2000-2005 Monte SS, a Charger, an Intrepid, a Fusion, or a Taurus.. and maybe a Camry now, since the local guys like to emulate their big league heroes.
and then there are the "modified" stock car classes- which is the same basic chassis as the other stock cars, but without the pretense of actually looking like anything but a dune buggy...
maybe all the NASCAR haters should go to a local track and walk thru the pits and rant to everyone you see about how lame the races are because the cars don't look like anything you see on the street any more.
like any other tv show or sporting event- if you don't like it, don't watch it. if enough people stay away and the ratings drop and sponsorship dollars start to disappear, then NASCAR will get the message and get some stock sheetmetal back out there like the Chevy, Ford, and Dodge want them to...

No, racing is is supposed to be more, otherwise iroc racing would be much more popular.
