: I don't want to do it!! BUT!!
Ricks70ss Aug 20th, 08, 5:41 PM The other day I was helping my neighbor with his landscaping. My wife walks over after work to say say hello to both of us. Some how Harley's came up. He rides a bagger. I haven't rode in two yrs. Sold it after 25+ yrs of riding. Then bought the Chevelle. So now she says!!! After standing in the garage downing a cold one. (Next to his Harley) Wow! Id like to take another cross country ride on a Harley again. I think that would be fun. I said yeah it would. Then they both say. Sell the Chevelle. And buy another Harley. I told her to shut up. Ya trouble maker. Then he pipes in says Hey Mines for $ale. Cause I want a new one. Told him the same thing. SHUT UP. Now I'd sell my pick up to get another bike. But not the Chevelle. Later that evening after dinner. I walk into the living room to watch the boob tube. She just smioles at me. I said WHAT ? Nothing just smiling. She's up to no good. Just had to RANT. Thanks Rick

Don't be so sure. My wife watch's the money like a hawk too but she's the one that said "Why don't you buy that Chevelle, you know you want it." That was 4 yrs ago, a few weeks ago she said "Why don't you call around and see how much it would cost for another garage?" She even went to the township hall and picked up all the paperwork, zoning restrictions, building permit, etc. She's also the one that said we need a new interior in the Chevelle, so I ordered one! :D Now I have a winter project.

Guess I didn't think it through. :( Actually she said we could move one of the refrigerators, tv's and whatever else we needed out there and my son and I could stay out there. Sometimes I think that might not be a bad idea.
Chevy fan attic Aug 20th, 08, 7:34 PM plan the trip, rent the bike, then you don't have to sell anything......
This truly would be the smartest thing to do.
GRN69CHV Aug 20th, 08, 8:31 PM Bill has it right. I have been back & forth on getting another bike now for a few years. What I've decided is though, I do like the Harley style bikes, but probably enjoyed riding much much more when I was young and rode standard Jap bikes (going way back here by the way to Honda CB750 days). Little by little the rentals are catching on and becoming more available. Before I ever buy another bike, I am going to rent one short term and get to know it first.
PS - keep the Chevelle (just too hard to replace), if need be cut corners on the bike purchase, while a Harley has it's own place, there are plenty of options to get you up on two wheels.
Ricks70ss Aug 20th, 08, 10:08 PM Renting a Harley is out of the question. At $200.00 a day. I have to go around the block and then take it back. But they'll have an open house or a demo ride soon. So I'll try that 1st. In the Oct issue of Hot Rod. As soon as you turn the 1sr page. There sits a beautiful glide witha BIG rear tire & rim LOOKs GREAT. Not sure what they are asking for it. But I still like my old chopped down dresser. No trunk, one seat, wind screen cut down to 3 inches. Kind of cool looking plus being lower 21/2 looked great. ok enough of this. My Chevelle is not leaving!!!!!!!!!!!!Thats it

if you got the $ for a harley, go for it. but heres how i see it (i ride 300 days a year) for those of you who don't have 300 ridable days.
rent for 200 a day, spend a week riding where you want........
buy one for 16-20k, service after 500 miles $300, service every 3,000 miles afterward, 300 to 1,200 depending on miles. tires, insurance, then for you cold weather folks, you get to park it for 3-6 months.
i have a friend who flys in from canada every couple years, rents one, rides the hell out of it, then we take it back. it sounds expensive, but not as expensive as paying monthly for something that sits......
there are a ton of great bikes out there, you can pick up for a fair price. i'm a harley guy, but the yamaha roadstar is an imppressive bike, and honda makes a few very nice bikes.
normie Aug 20th, 08, 10:37 PM I've got a feeling that you will find a TON of nice Harleys real cheap once the winter hits..
Motorcycle, or oil in the tank?
I've seen more people selling unnecessary items already, some are asking top dollar, others are just trying to put money in the bank.. Sit tight and keep an eye out.. There are going to be a lot of "You won't believe the deal I got this winter" stories to go around!
Xplantdad Aug 21st, 08, 12:31 AM Hey Rick...don't sweat it. Get your rear out here...and I am sure that one of our stores would be able to hook you up! Even with a rental...:hurray:
rbwjr325 Aug 21st, 08, 6:38 AM If you come home and cant find her anywhere,go and see if your neighbor is missing too.

Yep!!!! She's working out a plan to head out with the neighbor!!! ;)

But I would never sell the chevelle to do it.
68bye Aug 21st, 08, 1:41 PM Besides, the $200 / day price is during bike week. It's much cheaper during off times. Like, less than half. Check it out.
Bowtie-72 Aug 21st, 08, 3:38 PM Rick, tough to get around in the MN winter's w/o a truck. Looks like she took our advice from last year, and has already ordered that new truck you're looking at. technically, you'll still have the chevelle, but get a truck too! Then you can have the bike.

Derek69SS Aug 21st, 08, 11:08 PM Don't even think about selling the Chevelle old man. :noway:
Ricks70ss Aug 22nd, 08, 10:18 AM Derek: If I sold a Chevelle; It would be yours or Brad's. Might sell the truck for an older bike ...... But never the Chevelle for a bike. I couldn't sleep at night if I ever did that. I LOVE htis car. She isn't much. But to me. She beautiful. Rick

Ricks70ss Aug 22nd, 08, 2:58 PM Thanks Bill for the kind words. To most on here she's a daily ride. To me....She's my pride & joy.

I think he's trying to say that your suck, and his is cool. ;)
Nah, we gotta wait a few more years. There's really not much market out there for a numbers matching red with black stripe 70 Chevelle w/AC. :p
Rick-theres so many used rides out there that are only a year or 2 old with low miles. nice thing is that it still doesn't really fill up the garage.
Finally Aug 22nd, 08, 5:03 PM NO matter what. HANK has a great wife. We need our wifes to hang around with her!!
Hey, the other day she said the 454 just doesn't sound as good as the old 396. The 396 had a Comp 280H and it did have a nice sounding idle. The 454 is a lot stronger but just doesn't have that big cam idle sound. Told her we could fix that too. Have to wait some for her to warm up to the idea of spending more on the Chevelle. Maybe I can work it in over the winter, after all she brought up.
