Well I have searched and read many many post about BB combos. They vary from post to post. Here is what I have a 67 Elky currently with a 355. I have a 454 .30 over 2 bolt block with new cam bearings ready to build. I also have a set of 336781..ovalport...OPEN Chamber.. heads, 118cc chamber, 256/114cc ports. I will use my current TB350 and buy a good stall, and I have a 8.2 10 bolt with a new eaton posi and 4:56 gears currently in the car(i know I expect it to be the week link eventually, just no 4000 rpm launches for now). Car weighs 3600 lbs with me in it.

So my question is this, I want to build this motor so I can drive it on the street just not very much(15 miles a week). I want it to run on pump gas with octane booster. Mostly raced on weekends. I want keep this motor simple, no $1200 crank, $800 pistons or parts that I can't pronounce. I want to use quality parts but not overkill. My current combo runs 8:80's in the 1/8th on pump gas and capped headers. I would like the BB to run 7:90-8:00 in the 1/8th.

After reading all the previous post I am still confused on Single plane vs Dual Plane intake, Hyd vs Solid vs Roller cam. how much Compression to run?
I hope I provided enough info. Just keep this in mind reliability and low cost are my main objectives. graemlins/waving.gif

On the CR you can read about it HERE (http://members.uia.net/pkelley2/DynamicCR.html). If you have any questions, feel free.

After that you can figure on being able to run 8.5:1+ dynamic compression on boosted 93 pump fuel ( 94-95 octane). Cost and reliability? Run a good solid flat tappet cam. You better ditch the 4.56s quick unless you want to build a 7000 rpm rat. The Speed Pro/TRW pistons are great sub-7000 rpm slugs. Combine this with a stout solid cam, Comp280S, LunatiA4, etc., and you'll be there. Remember to match the cam and gearing.

which set of these heads would be best for what I want?

336781.....73-85...oval...OPEN...454, 118cc chamber, 256/114cc ports

3975950....68-70...oval...OPEN...396, 402 Truck, 366T, 427T

3999241....72......oval...OPEN...402, 454, 113cc chamber

I have all 3 sets in my brothers garage.

215's,049's,781's are the best with the 215's being closed chamber large ovals, other two are open chamber so a domed piston is a must with them. I'd use the 781's, .550/.570 lift solid flat tappet, RPM air gap if you havent purchased an intake yet,1.75 headers,10-1 compression and 4.11 gears, the th350 will work fine.
