I have a 400sb with no miles on it. It was bored .30 and i rebuilt it in 97. It has been started and was run quite a bit, just moving the car around while it was being restored. Well now it smokes white as soon as it gets hot. It may just be a head gasket, but if its a cracked block, what should i do with this engine? It has brand new cam, pistons, good crank, rods ect.

Does it have an automatic trans. Could be a leaking modulator. Tranny fluid makes lots of white smoke. If it didn't have anti-freeze and froze, that could be bad.

I unhooked the vaccum hose from the tranny because i suspected the modulator.Assuming the motors toast what could i use it for. I know the crank could be used to build a stroker. How bout the rods and pistons?

Ok i finally am getting around to tearing this engine down. It smokes white when it gets up to 180, traany and brake hoses disconnected. No milkshake in the oil.Plugs look clean.I'm pulling the heads now, hopefully it will be an obviously blown head gasket. if not, what next?Get the heads checked for cracks? I dont mind throwing a set of heads on it if they are cracked, but i dont want to thow money at the motor if the block is cracked.

Is performance down? Why don't you do a leakdown and compression test before tearing into the engine?
