: My brothers car...1/4 prediction
Ron454 Aug 18th, 04, 4:35 AM Drove my brothers 69 Camaro convert today. Was quite surprised by the power in the schmall block.
Since I'm a rat guy...was wondering what you "predict it" folks think this combo might muster in the 1/4 mile.....before we get tossed for no rollbar......
69 Camaro Convert......3700lbs?
2004R trans
3.73 posi
Engine is a "fast burn 385 hp" that has the HOT cam and rockers.
Also is stroked to 383 CID.
We did mild bowl clean up on the heads....which look pretty dang good btw.
Holley 650DP
Hooker 1.75 super comps into a 2.5" X-pipe system with magnaflow muffs. (Sounds damn nice btw)
This engine ought to make 450+ hp as far as we can guess....
I think with traction it could go mid/low 12's at about 110.
Am I nuts?
Ron
Slowpoke70 Aug 18th, 04, 7:57 PM Sounds about right. I've heard of heavier Chevelles with similar combos running low 13s.
GRN69CHV Aug 18th, 04, 9:34 PM Ah yes, the old "with traction it could go" mystery. Mankind has searched for the answer to this unsolved mystery for just about as long as he has searched for the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant and Noah's Ark. Please let me know when you find it.
Aaron Kelley Aug 18th, 04, 10:00 PM Well I've played around with the hot cam fast burn combo. Mine went a best of 12.80 @ 105, But with 350 CID. That time was with 3.70 gear and a 28 inch slick no other suspension mods. I used to shift it at 6500 rpm.
I think mid twelve's with traction and tunning.
Are you guys going to take it to Woodburn?
Ron454 Aug 18th, 04, 10:58 PM Hey GRN69CHV,
Ok, it won't have proper traction......not w/o slicks and some sort of traction bar.
So maybe I should have asked how many mph it will run. ET really doesn't matter.
The holy grail.......you kniggett! I told them we already got one! Monty Python....
Hi Aaron, good to hear from a fell NW guy. If....brother takes it anywhere, it will be to Portland's Friday or Sat night street legal program. They are less picky about the rules.....but we will still get tossed! Converts just are too obvious.
Ron
Aaron Kelley Aug 19th, 04, 12:01 AM Hey Ron,
I've never been to Portland but saw it on TV once :D serious I think I was watching a TV program and it showed street legal event at PIR. Have Fun! Is that stroker a late model block? Let me know if it is because I have parts for those blocks. If you ever need anything let me know.
Aaron
MO_chevelle Aug 19th, 04, 8:48 PM My chevelle is 3650lb w/ me. 400 hp 3.36 gears. ran a 13.11 on 235 street tires with no traction
Nickel333 Aug 19th, 04, 10:47 PM Not to rain on your parade here but i think 450+ HP is a little on the optimistic side. With traction and that much power youde be in the 11's in a hurry.
Ron454 Aug 20th, 04, 9:32 PM Hey Nickel,
Rain is cool. I'm an Oregonian....in fact some rain would be nice, and is predicted for Sunday.
And....I hate parades.
The 450 hp guess comes from GM's measurement on the ZZ430, which this engine is, but also has 33 more cid plus head work.
450 might be optimistic......but I have read that the the ZZ430 indeed meets specs.
Shoot, maybe the car will go into the 11's. I hope to convince him to give it a whirl with slicks in a month or so when we get some nice cool SEA LEVEL air.
Ron
GRN69CHV Aug 20th, 04, 9:39 PM Like the kind of air we are going to have here on Sunday. 72 with a high of 77. Great weather for a day at the races.

@ 6,000 RPM without head work.
