Hey Guys
I wanted to get some opnions on installing a TBI unit on my 350. I know a TPI is more advanced but I am liking the fact that TBI is much lower in pressure and you don't need to make custom fuel lines for it.

Could I put together a well functioning TBI set up for under $900
Should you still have a baffled gas tank/sump for a TBI setup?
Does a TBI unit need a return fuel line?
With a TBI setup do you a mechanical fuel pump or an electric pump?
What is the tachomiter drieven off of?

I figured it will cost a few hundred to rebuild my q-jet but I would love the enjoy the benefits of easy start ups, better feul economy, stc.

Thanks an advance

You said "you want to enjoy easy startups with the TBI vs q-jet",well if you have a q-jet properly setup/rblt thats just what you will have ,an easy starting great perforng carb.

It's when sloppy work/rbld is done by inexperienced person that you can have issues with any carb, not just q-jet.

The q-jet should outpower the TBI but TPI is a great EFI as you mentioned but it requires a lot more work to install/setup then a q-jet that will be reliable as heck when setup /rblt properly.

If you go with the q-jet send your's to Sean Murphy Induction ,he sponsers this site and gives 10% off on q-jet work for t/cr's.

Sean does great rbld/resto work on the q-jets ,check out the link to his site that listed here in t/chevelle.

Since you alreay have the q-jet why not go with it,it will be much cheaper then buying/setting up the tbi from scrtach and Sean can get it setup right the 1st time so you wont have any issues.

If you call Sean tell him Scott from t/chevelle rec him to you.

To answer your other questions ...
A TBI does still require an electric fuel (sump tank) ... and return fuel line. Really not much difference between TBI and TPI in that manner.

I think EFI will offer some better starting (marginal). It can be easier to tune for MPG, but not guaranteed ... and a Q'Jet can deliver very similar MPG.

Your tach will be driven off the distributor.

Thanks, Neal
