This is true. I have been searching for a while now for a bargain, and doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

I would pay double that for an original before I would buy a reproduction.
buying repop parts is the easy way out, or should I say the CHEESY way out.

I got mine off of ebay, was around $400. Not perfect but it's original. At any given day, you can almost always find on there. Not sure how the repops are. I've never seen one

It is the same reproduction everybody is selling. The top pieces and door were originally METAL, the repop stuff is all plastic. Just wait and find an original console.

Had trouble finding an original one so I caved and bought the repop. Didn't even get it all the way out of the box before I put it right back in and returned it. Embarrassingly cheap in look and construction. If you can find a refurbished original, go that way. An original one that still needs redone will cost you more in time and money than one that's already done (just like the cars they go in!). Between buying mine, having the chrome redone, then taping off the chrome so I could repaint it I have way more in it than I'd like to admit. But damn it looks good!
