I purchased a new gas tank vent while restoring my '69 and noticed the new vent did not have the packing material in it as the factory one had. Now I am getting slosh out when tank is full or close to full not to mention fumes as well. Reusing the old one is out of the question as the exhaust got the better of that one. Has anyone had this problem, if so, how did you cure this problem. This item was purchased from GU, is there a better replacement out there, any idea's, thanks.

Some fellas have bought a piece of lawn mower fuel filter, cut to size and squished it in there.
What Dan said. I've used the lawn mower sponge material with good success. Don't pack it too tight (it needs to breath), but fill up most of the top vent area with sponge.
Good luck.
Woj.
Thanks Dan and Phil, I will give that a try.

Dan,
I don't mean to sound stupid but where did you squish it in at?

I *think* Dan meant air filter, not fuel filter but anyway squishing it down into the big single tube on top will work OK.
The picture above is upside-down, the big single thingy goes on top.
