I have a 1993 Buick Century..replaced the front disc brakes and calibers...bled the brakes..now the car won't move..its like someone is holding the brakes..its not the rear brakes as the tires spin when I jack up the rear of the car..does anyone have any idea's? only reason I replaced the calibers is that I thought the drivers side front disc brake was sticking alittle..and the rotor was getting very hot...Please anyone..

Check the rubber hose leading to the calipers - they've been known to block up when they go bad, maybe they aren't letting the fluid back.

Also check the caliper retaining bolts. If they are gummed up the pads will not return properly.

Can they look good and still be bad on the inside..? would you replace both sides?

Since the calipers are new. Open both front bleeders and see if the pressure releases. If they release, I would look into replacing the hoses. Although its not common to have 2 hoses causing this problem at the same time.

Seen brand new calipers lock up as well. Unusual but it happens especially if they sat on the shelf for a long time.

Are they both locked for sure or is it just one side?

How can I tell if it is just one side?

So do I open them and then see if the car will move in drive?

Jack up the front of the car and see if you can rotate the wheels. Its easier with the wheels on. Sometimes they are just stiff enough that you cannot just turn the rotor when the wheel is off.

Yes, they can and do. 1993 isn't THAT old - but if one of them is bad, yes I would replace both.

When you bleed the calipers per above posts, look at the condition of the fluid - if it looks pretty bad, it's possible you've got additional problems coming. It should not look rusty/gummy, new stuff is clear.
