I Have a 10.0 compression 454 with oval port heads, dual plane intake and 4 speed trans, 355 gears in my chevelle. I was thinking about using the solid 282s magnum cam in it.(I perfer solid cams). Does anybody know what this cam sounds like in a 454? does it perform well and compliment the 454s rpm range? If there a problem with retainer to valve seal clearence being it is 560 lift?
thanks

One of my favorites! I have a friend who runs the 280 Hydraulic in a 9:1 or so 454 in his '68 Caprice wagon. It sounds great! It has a nice lope but not too radical. It's never been to the track so I don't know the performance. In a 10:1 motor it would probably sound a little lumpier. ;)

I had one in a 400 SB for a long time. Great cam. Excellent mid-range torque, not alot up top though, very street friendly, decent gas mileage even.

But, I have to say, the XE274 I replaced it with, would easily outrun it.

Kingdaddycreel, check out their 280S. The XE274 won't outrun that one!
