: getting around to it, and dying.
Jim Mac Aug 16th, 08, 12:41 AM I find out a guy I know passed away this morning. He was a fellow gearhead, mostly mustangs. We would talk about his 67 fastback thats been sitting in his yard for the past 10 or more years. Its a original 390 4 speed car. Looks like the elenor car from the movies. It was always something or another, but he was alway going to get around to start working on it.
Then comes the cancer. in a few short months and he's gone. Just kind of hits you how short life really is. Jim
JWA Aug 16th, 08, 12:55 AM Life can be too short. 67 fastbacks are one of the few Mustangs I like, especially if they are S code fast backs. A good friend has a black one with red interior. Sits in his shop next to his 69 Mach 1, his dad's 390 powered 69 Fastback, and 2 owner 69 350 4spd Camaro. Running joke is I have dibs on the Camaro when his dad hands it down. (like I need a fourth one).
A good friend is fighting liver cancer and is in a rough stage but pushing to get through. Just bought a 11 second 69 Nova to tinker with when he gets to feeling better. Having 80% of your liver removed takes some time to recover.....
Pete 67 Aug 16th, 08, 3:31 AM We all take way too much for granted & that includes tomorrow. My mom died in January of 2007 at age 56. Her death, as sad as it was, has affected me so profoundly. Trying to take positives from the fact that she was taken so young has opened my eyes to what is really important in life.
Sorry for your loss Jim.
bowkevin Aug 16th, 08, 6:27 AM I have to agree with Pete. A friend of mine just past away a few months ago at 58. He had just retired. He was the picture of health, never sick and very athletic. He was the guy that saved all his money and pinched every penny. He said when he retired he wanted to enjoy life. Well he did for 6 months.
bb1966chevelle Aug 16th, 08, 9:07 AM Yo Jim,
Sorry to hear about your fellow gearhead passing away.
I have seen quite a few muscle cars just sitting around sinking in the mud waiting to be restored. As we speak, I know where there is a complete 67 Chevelle SS sitting behind some older fellas garage. I stop every so often and ask him about selling it and get the same answer.... one day I am going to restore it.
But as long as the car still sits there untouched, I will keep going by and asking if he's ready to part with it. The same thing with a 67 Mustang Shelby GT350 Mustang.

one day you will stop by, and it will be gone. He will say "I got sick of looking at it and sold it for scrap"
bcice Aug 16th, 08, 9:52 PM Sorry to hear about your friend. So many my own age and even younger have passed recently. You have to wonder, is it worth scrimping and saving for your so called
"Golden Years"? I think I am going to spend and enjoy some of it. My folks saved so they could enjoy retirement and a couple of years after retiring, Dad was not well enough to travel anymore. So after all that doing without for so many years, they had plenty of money but not the health to do the things they wanted to do.
clean7t Aug 16th, 08, 11:22 PM What the heck is going on in this world lately? This stuff makes no sense. All of these people getting cancers at such a young age. Something is not right. I have to start my own thread on this, Sorry.
Jim Mac Aug 17th, 08, 1:27 AM My dad got rif'ed basically a demotion when Reagan took office back in '80 Everyone got back to thier last paygrade. The choice was relocate, take the demotion, or if you had the years you could retire. He was 50 at the time, and had the years,so he took the retirement. He had 20 years of great times. got cancer at 70, fought it for 5 years before he lost. But we look at the 20 years of fun that he had.
When you see these folks dying before they hit the golden years. it makes you think if its really worth putting away all the money into the 401K. But then you think about all these people that didnt put anything away and see how their lives suck. jim
cuisinartvette Aug 17th, 08, 2:59 AM Sad....both for the friend and the fastback.:(
Let mine sit too many years, saw the plate a month or two ago and realized its been 8 yrs since it ran. Since then Ive slowed down a bit, gone grey, etc.
Time to get busy and have some fun now while I can. You never get youth or that time back.
What really burns me is the partial loss of night vision, favorite time to drive.
If youre a youngster, dont wait.
