Hey guys. Seems my oil leaks are coming all over. I couldnt figure it out until today. I notice the oil coming out my orange valve covers. I havent notice any power loss or anything, but should I be worried something damaged it? Would they wear over time? I assume they are original to the engine -1973.

One step closer to buying an engine, cause once this dies I have an excuse :beers:

Try new valve cover gaskets?

If they are the stock steel valve covers they problably aren't cracked. They probably have been over tightened in the past which distorts the flat sealing surface of the valve cover and causes them to leak. Get some new gaskets and take a look at the flanges by the bolt holes for distortion. You might have to tap those surfaces flat again with a hammer or replace them.

No the oil is coming from the middle to the top of the valve cover. I am going to take some pictures tonight.

Are they the same valve covers that came on the engine? If they're the wrong ones they may not have enough rocker clearance and the rockers may have eaten holes in them from the inside.

They are NOT the "Chevrolet"-script covers--right?

First Guess: Someone installed them upside-down at some point. Then the rockers beat into the top of the cover as they move. Cover cracks as a result.
