I haven't seen it... I'm told it does spin, been out of the car for years (stored inside). Supposed to be originall motor from 70 Monte. $300 asking price... guy wants it gone. Sorry no pic's. Complete motor carb to oil pan... no information on trans other than turbo 400. Going o check it out tomorrow night.

Seems like it should be an ok deal right as long as it is rebuildable?

Seems like a good deal to me. But your 10 bolt probably won't hold up if you put it in your car.

If it was local I would be interested too, but cost of shipping would be about the same as the cost of the engine.

Don't buy a pig in a poke.
Get the engine ID numbers and casting numbers.
70 Monte's had 402's too.
Here's the 70 codes:

Bold = manual trans.

BC, why wouldn't a 10 bolt hold up to a stock 454? I have several friends with big blocks pushing 450hp and have 10 bolt rears that hold up fine. I would be suprised if that old LS5 out of that 70 Monte is still pushing anywhere near the 365hp when it was new.

I had a '70SS Monte and it had CRN code and was correct for the car. So CRN needs to be added to CRT and CRQ.

Chart's from Year One and does have some flaws.

The 10 bolt would probably hold up on a stock 454 for most people, with a normal width street tire. Put on a sticky tire and you are asking for trouble. Maybe I am just too hard on stuff or like to overbuild things. The motor probably needs to be "freshened up" anyway and if you are going to do that, I would go for at least 1 hp per cubic inch. I could be wrong, but I thought most of the big block cars got 12 bolts, for a reason.

went to check out the motor, drove for an hour... motor looked like it sat at the bottom of an ocean for a few years, no plugs, wouldn't crank (by hand), one head off.... PASSED ON IT!

Thank you for the responses.

1 hour isn't too bad for a check.

Did you get the codes on the front of the block or the casting #s?
Was the trans worth looking at?

The owner told me that the reason he pulled the combo was that the trans had a problem and he wanted to rebuild the motor at the same time but never got to it.

I did not even look at it. If someone really wants the info i can proably get it.
