This has probably been asked a thousand times, but here goes.
Could you get a 1972 SS with sweep dash? There was a 72 with sweep dash in the Silver auction in Reno that claimed to be a SS - it had the SS emblems.

No, SS came with the pod gauges. If an SS has the sweep dash, its most likely a clone.

Concur with super...72 SS came with gauges. Sweep went into malibu's and such. The SS came with round gauges, bucket seats, 12 blot rear end, rear anti sway bar etc. Here's a great site to check if it's a real or clone http://www.chevelles.com/shop/ss_ident.html

That is a true statement.
A TRUE SS has the round openings for gauges. Gauges were NOT standard on an SS. Standard was idiot lights, and the gauge pkg was an option which included the gauges AND the tach.
MOST SS cars got bucket seats, but buckets were NOT standard for the SS. The bench seat and a column shift (except 4sp) was standard. Buckets, console and floor shift were an option.
The domed hood was part of the SS pkg, the CI hood was an option------------------BUT ONLY ON BIG BLOCKS!
The only TRUE cowl induction hood on a small block was the Camaro.
ALL BB cars came with a 12bolt rear (including the Malibu 400), but posi was an option.

Plain and simple,NO. It had the emblems because they're a lot easier to install than a round pod dash.

Thanks, guys. I thought the sweep dash meant it was not a SS.

If you question it, a lot of owners will say "oh uh, um, the dash had to be replaced because........ l:)
