: straight story on 69SS chrome pillars.

Does anyone know what the deal with chrome inside windshield pillars are on 69 SS cars? I was under the impression that cars with the SS package got the treatment, mine has them, and a strip of chrome from them to the rear of the car along the edge of the window. Yet all of the local SS cars I've seen do not have them, all are plastic. The only other car I have seen yet with them has been a Malibu.

Was this a SS only item, or was it just a random pretty that they tossed on some cars if the right box was checked?

I talked to one fellow at a show that told me none of the cars ever had them, and he was amazed how someone "fabricated" mine- and his reasoning was since it wasn't something sold as a repo item, it wasn't a option. (good reasoning, eh?).

Thanks for any insight.

As I understand it, there are two correct types of '69 windshield pillar interior trim, painted metal and vinly covered foam. My '69 SS has vinyl covered. I suppose someone could chrome plated a set of metal parts.
