: hidden wipers not "parking"

This is on my 69 Buick, which should be exactly the same as my 69 Chevelle. The wipers don't go into the park position when they are shut off. They work fine otherwise. Any ideas?

Where do they stop when you turn them off?

Do they stop immediately when you turn them off?
For wipers to park properly they need power from the fuse block that is not switched. This allows the motor to park the wipers, then turn off internally.
If you have this un-switched power at the wiper motor you may have problem internal to the motor control.

You can adjust the park position of the blades where the linkage attaches to the motor, or check to see if the blades are hanging up on the lower windshield trim just enough to keep them from parking correctly.

They go back to the bottom of the working travel and stop there. They don't appear to be hanging up anywhere.

I'll check that, thanks.

Parking wipers must go to low speed before they can park. Move your switch to low before going to off. If they don't slow down your switch is bad. If they do go to slow. Resistor at motor is bad.

Are you sure about that?
Why do they stop where ever they are when the key is turned off then?

I think he means power that is not switched by the wiper switch.

Their power come from "key on" ignition.
The WW switch only turns off and on the ground I believe.

I had that problem on my Malibu. Turns out the motor wasn't grounded well enough. The motor grounds to the mounting plate and the mounting plate is grounded to the firewall via the attachment screws. My mounting plate wasn't grounded to the firewall well enough.

This probably isn't the case with you, since we tend to look under our Chevelle hoods more often, but my wife's Cad was doing this for years. I finally noticed the wiper motor was no longer bolted to the firewall! The motor was rotating when the wipers were parking. When the wipers were on, I guess it had enough torque to sweep!
